How to Do the Saliva pH Test Wait at least 2 hours after eating. Fill your mouth with saliva and then swallow it. Do this again to help ensure that the saliva is clean. Then the third time, put some saliva onto pH paper. Wait a few seconds until the pH paper stops changing color. The pH paper should turn blue. I've been aware of the importance of monitoring pH levels for about 15 or more years and this has proven to be the most reliable and inexpensive pH paper I've been able to find anywhere; I'm glad to see Amazon carries it now! You can test either urine pH or salivary pH with this paper. The most accurate way to test is by using a small dixie cup to collect a urine sample, dip a small piece of the paper into your collected sample, quickly remove and immediately compare the strip color to the color code chart on the side of the package. Yes, you can also test urine pH by simply holding the paper in the urine stream BUT you run the risk of inaccurate readings, simply because the force of the urine stream has the potential to alter the chemical coating on the paper--best to test on a contained sample, in my opinion. Salivary pH can be easily tested by, pardon the bluntness, simply spitting on the paper and comparing to the color chart. Ideally, you want your pH readings to be more toward the alkaline end of the scale than the acidic. According to conventional wisdom, degenerative diseases like cancer and inflammatory diseases like arthritis are acid-friendly; it's said that patients with these conditions will test in the "yellow" range. I check my number every day and this little ph strip is a wonder. It really lets me know from day to day or morning to evening how my alkaline diet is doing or not doing. I can tell what foods really work and what foods really need to be avoided. I just put it into my mouth for a second or two and check. I know websites say you need a blood test or such to be 100% accurate on one's ph but this little gauge does a good job from a day to day level in giving me a good idea how good I am doing or how poorly I am doing. If I eat something strong in corn syrup sweetener (example pumpkin pie or some fruit juices) my number the next day or later that evening has dropped. This is an excellent way to help anyone realize how they are doing with the alkaline diet or how badly they are acid. Cancer cannot live in an alkaline body so I am really interested in making sure I keep a strong alkaline body with my veggies, fruit, and beans--the natural diet. The processed diet of packaged "foods", high processed juices, and strong corn based diets is a one way ticket to the acid body and acid reflux problems and a future life heading toward cancer, the end product of an acid diet. So I will continue to buy these strips. I'm always elated to see my numbers in the 8 and higher colors; those cultures with alkaline water as a lifestyle have body ph's of 8+ and have no cancer and live healthy lifestyles well into their 90's disease free. So that is my goal. This summer marks my first year of being strong alkaline and my body behaves so much different than other years of my life. It is an amazing difference from the high acid diet I used to life on. These strips have made it very clear what works and what doesn't and cued me when I didn't eat right and what the price tag was or would be eventually. I have 2 Miniature Schnauzers with bladder and kidney stones. I decided to purchase pH test strips to monitor their urine at home rather than paying $22 each time at the veterinarian's office, especially since one has become very ill and requires daily testing and subcutaneous fluid replacement based on the results of pH and specific gravity testing of her first morning urine. I've tried several kinds and so far this is the most accurate and easy to use. Pros for this item are: * The item description is correct; the results are immediate. * Results are the same as testing done at the vet's lab. * Less vet visits for the dogs; the vet and I have set up protocols for how much fluid to give based on the results, so it saves me $$$ in the long run. * The 0.2 increments allow better management of their treatment than guessing at the 0.5 measurements, as well as accuracy comparable to lab results * Refills are available through Amazon. Cons: only one at this point: * You have to make sure the tape stays dry and isn't exposed to moisture, which could affect the results. It was easy to spot when it first happened because the exposed part was lighter in color than normal; I just store it in a plastic bag to keep out moisture.

PH tape: At first I thought the tape was defective as it did not change color. Actually my PH was around 5.5 so that was the reason. Very surprised it was that low. After changing to a more alkaline diet started to see a difference moving toward 7ph. Tested our drinking water at 6.8 and readings moved to 8 after adding a bit of baking soda. The package says works best with buffered solutions, but if you measure right after taking a sample you will get an accurate reading. Buffered samples are for delayed measurements Good Product in my opinion, and reordering.

I bought these, having never used such a product before. It seemed they would be easy enough to use and to read. So, I tried them. It was a bit hard peeing on them (a short piece risks one's hands getting too close to, well, you know) and a longer piece would often curl up (given they came off a roll). The paper was too thin, really, to work well. Then, it came for reading these. I have interstitial cystitis, so I expected my urine to me acidic, but nowhere near as acidic as it tested. Kept trying. Finally, went to my dr to get a baseline reading - and it was far different than what I had received testing at home with this product. Given these didn't seem to work for me, I decided to have some fun and test other things - tap water, distilled water, other liquids. It seemed that, no matter what I tested, the pH came back as more acidic than it should have. Now maybe I'm just lousy at reading these. Or maybe the color guide on the container isn't as good as it could be. Or maybe my eyes just don't read color very well! I dont' know. I just know they were hard to use and I didn't find them reliable for the reason I bought them. I eventually tried another product my doctor suggested - yes, it was more expensive, but it was easier to use and I got much more reliable results. Maybe these will work well for you (and maybe I just got a bad roll), but I won't be buying them again.
