Twenty years ago Seagate made the best drives then their quality went down as well as warranty. Warranty used to be five years on all their drives. So last several years WD drives had been much better. Now it seems all the manufacturers are selling drives that are cheap in more ways then one. WD Black and Enterprise level drives are ones which the manufacturers actually will have warranties of five years which leads me finally to these drives. Very large cache - 128meg. Short seek times. Performed very well for platter drives when I tested both drives before adding them to my LVM array. The cost is what lead me to purchasing these over WD. SSD still light years faster and more reliable but for price per GB these drives are worth it. I digress further - I run different Linux distro's so what works for me is that I add swap and OS and main programs on SSD set up with LVM. (Swap will probably never be used with amount of memory I use but SSD's work better over time with space left on them.) Then I add new drive to LVM vg and add all my media.

has continued to be a good solution for enterprise data storage needs
Over the years the quality of Seagate's consumer hard drives has declined precipitously, but despite their inability to produce affordable and reliable consumer hard drives Seagate's enterprise line, most notably the Constellation series, has continued to be a good solution for enterprise data storage needs. If you're purchasing a hard drive and you give a damn about the data stored on it then spend the extra money to purchase a Constellation over a Barracuda or whatever junk Western Digital is selling these days. Yes, Constellations cost more money than Barracudas and yes, despite their increased reliability they occasionally fail, but for the extra money you spend they do deliver on reliability and performance.

Great drive.
As a software developer having stable drives is important. I run RAID 1 with 2 of these and they work great. I've had a number of failures with the cheaper Seagate and Western Digital drives so finally spent a bit extra for these and has been over a year now with no failures. I keep spares just in case and have not had to use it. Previously was a drive every 3-6 months.

Purchased 4 units 5 months ago...1 failed, others starting to fail.
Purchased 4 Pc 3 years ago...all ran well. Purchased additional 4 units for backup, 5 months ago. One failed and the rest starting to fail. All had excessive hours. Advertised as new, but, clearly the were used. No warranty from Seagate.

After having bad experiences using both consumer drives (bad I know) and low power drives in budget NAS solutions, I decided to go with enterprise level products for a new NAS. I have yet to have any SMART errors or erratic behavior. They are in a QNAP TS-269L that handles media and file serving (three macs, two PCs) and Time Machine backups (for three macs). They are a bid louder than your typical hard drive all around and are clearly audible during access, but for a device with that many power-on hours the piece of mind is well worth it. These are in a RAID-1 configuration and even during I/O intensive tasks such as time machine backups, throughput is excellent. If I were to do it all over again with the same number of bays or more, I would get more of these but in a higher capacity. All the enterprise drives I've had from Seagate have been excellent whether a 15k.2, 15k.5 or even the Constellations.

Seagate Makes a Great Drive; Still Going Year+ Later
I don't know why all the four stars but this drive has been in use over a year now and no problems whatsoever. Seagate makes a great drive, and the price for 2TB has come down so low that it's affordable. I would buy this again, and have several of these already in production. For its' time, the value is definitely there.

Drive was a replacement for a failing drive on my desktop pc. Drive arrived quickly in good condition, backup software restored my data. Would purchase again.

Like described. It's a hard drive so there isnt too much to talk about. Quite fast, enough for most local games I store to be booted up almost instantly.

Le premier disque était défectueux, mais le fournisseur m’a retourné un nouveau sans frais. Très satisfait du produit un disque de 2TG

I always buy the Seagate ES3 drives when I need a new mass-capacity hard drive. Just make sure that they're kept cool as my old one from years ago had gone dead from overheating due to a dead fan in its enclosure. I have new enclosures now that rely on heat sinks, so nothing can should ever go wrong. I realized just how hardcore these drives are when I dismantled the dead one to attempt to smash the disk, but I could not! No matter how hard I hit it, it just slightly dented it. It certainly did not shatter like every other drive does.
