I think you have to keep utility and price point in mind when reviewing this product. I am using mine to display a replica pistol. For this purpose the overall quality is very good. The finish, while not perfect, is more than suitable. The hardware is pretty standard for the money. While others have complained about the lock not working, with a little patience and care not to bend or break the key(s) provided, I did manage to get mine working. The kit provided to hold the firearm in place is actually a bit of "overkill". I easily shortened the curved post on the right by approximately 1-1/4" with a dremel and removed the two large rubber washers on the left post. This will give your sidearm a "cleaner" looking display. I purchased the engraved brass nameplate for an additional $15. My only gripe is that the felt had a small crease in the upper right hand corner... not a huge deal. You will need to to drill holes in the pressed wood backing where appropriate. This material is ideal as it does not splinter or chip like solid wood can, and it's very sturdy. From box to wall took me about 45 minutes. One last note... if you are looking to store/display a real firearm I would suggest going with a more expensive/secure box. All-in-all I am very pleased with this display case.

The case itself is attractive and well built, but disappointed that it didn't have posts to actually hang the firearm on. I went to Home Depot and got 3/8 inch hex bolts that were two inches long along with two nuts and two washers to create my own posts and it worked out great!
