31 Serene and Beautiful Hand-Drawn Designs - printed on one side of heavy weight perforated page
The media could not be loaded. This is a really lovely book of hand-drawn garden designs with a definite Asian flair. There are swans, koi fish, flowers, bonsai, fish paper lanterns and much more. I really enjoy Asian style designs and this book is filled with pages that I will want to color. I love the hand-drawn look over a realistic look. It gives me leeway to color the way I would like things to look versus trying to make the images look realistic. The designs in this book are detailed and some are quite intricate. I don't think that coloring will require extra tiny tips (like my Uni-ball Signo gel pens) but you will find that an ultra-fine tip might work best for some of the elements. I like to mix a variety of medium while I am coloring, so for me, this book will provide an opportunity to use most of my coloring tools. Some of the earlier Peter Pauper coloring books were by a variety of artists but this book focuses on only Trina Dalziel's work – a change in focus that I am really enjoying. I have now purchased several coloring books from this publisher that focus on a single artist and have seen that there will be a few more in the coming year. The pages are a heavyweight of bright white paper that is micro perforated. The designs are printed on one side of the page only and while most stop prior to the perforations, a few extend beyond it. The designs do not merge into the binding area; however, a number of design elements are cut off on the edges of the designs which leaves open-ended parts to the design. The paper is also acid-free which means that it will not turn colors with age and all the work you put into coloring the designs should be safe. Additionally, the glued binding can be pushed into lying flat to give you access to make coloring in this book if you prefer that over taking pages out.The only markers that bleed through on this paper are my alcohol-based markers. None of my gel pens or water-based brush, fine, or ultra-fine markers bleed through. Coloring pencils work well and according to their type (hard or soft lead.) If you are using alcohol based markers or just for general safety, you can put an extra page of heavyweight paper under the page you are working on just in case some color leaches through. Be sure to check your particular markers/pens to see if there is any leaking for that brand. These are the coloring medium that I use for testing. If there is something else you feel I should be testing, please let me know and I will see if I can add it to my growing pile:Markers: 1) alcohol-based – Copic Sketch, Prismacolor double ended markers (brush and fine point), Sharpies (fine and ultra-fine) and 2) water-based – Tombows dual end markers (brush and fine point), Stabilo 88, Staedler triplus fineliners, and Pentel markersGel Pens: Sakura, Fiskars, Uni-ball Signo 0.38/0.28 and TekwriterColoring Pencils: Prismacolor Premier Soft Core, Derwent Colorsoft, Prismacolor Verithins, and Faber-Castel Polychromos

Can even handle watercolor with minimal buckling!
I love this Peter Pauper Press line of coloring books! The paper is the best I've encountered in all brands of coloring books - including the Johanna Basford line of books. This is nice and heavy and I was able to use even Sakura Koi watercolor brush pens and even carefully do a little blending with the blender pen - but very carefully as that will start to tear at the paper and eventually start to bleed through. But without blending those markers as well as Tombows do not bleed through. Sharpies will but they do with anything. Not so with the waterbased markers I've tried. Zen Garden and Serenity are my favorites, but I have several others simply because I love the paper so much and I have the option to use so many of my markers. You can even use water to blend without bleed through - just a little paper buckling. But this is the only one I've been able to use with these types of markers and water with minimal buckling and no bleed through. Please keep them coming - I would love to collect more of these books!

Very pretty but not very zen!
All in all, I have to say I was disappointed in this book, although the drawings are very pretty and the overall quality is good. The paper could be smoother, but it is a good thickness. I like that there is only one picture to a page spread. All that adds up to the 3 stars. My disappointment relates to the fact that most of the pictures are not very simple. When I looking for zen, I don’t want complicated, I just want to relax.

Great quality for such a great price
Really great quality, especially considering the price. Thick pages with pictures printed on only one side. Pages are designed to be easily torn out. Markers seem to work ok and not bleed through too much, though I'd still be careful and either rip the page out or put another piece of paper in between. Nice designs and I'm really enjoying it.

My 94 year old mom loves it
I bought this for my 94 year old mother for Mother's Day. She loves to mix it up with watercolors or felt pens or with paint pens. She had a fall and can no longer dance. It gives her something enjoyable to do while sheltering in place during COVID-19 quarantine. She has even gotten some of her friends to enjoy their own books. Great fun.

Beautiful Oriental Zen Gardens
Zen Gardens- How would you color them? You’d probably think oriental thoughts. What color do you see the color of the abstract birds? Nice easy questions to ask yourself as you take a break from your stressful day. No wrong. No right. Just you-coloring for yourself.

Detailed and Delightful
This is a spectacular little coloring book with pictures detailed and delightful. I like smaller books with pictures that do not extend into the spine of the book. This book is just that. Thick, creamy paper printed on one side makes coloring with lots of different media a joy. No bleed through with gel pens or Tombow markers or Farber Castel India Ink brush pens.

Good.
Inspired designs. One image per page. Good quality paper. Paper holds ink, depending on ink quality smearing is possible. Let color dry before closing book as pages rubbing can lead to smudging.

top quality from the cover to the inside pages..
Zen Garden Adult Coloring book is like no other colouring book I have purchased in the past for one simple reason the quality of the paper is first class and no matter what colouring materials you use with this beautiful paper there will be no leaking through of any ink this is one thing I can promise. The pictures inside are very relaxing to colour and as a collection of pictures, these will be beautiful when completed.Like many I have joined the masses who love to colour in to relax or simply to pass time and I am always on the look-out for something extra special to use my colours on and this is one book which I would happily recommend for one simple reason the quality of this book is first class throughout from the beauty of the pictures to the top quality of the paper.

Love this coloring book!
Wonderful coloring book: 31 different images all with an oriental theme. Images are drawn to the page edges, each sheet is perforated and easily removed, and the paper itself is thick and of good quality. I have now purchased 8 of their coloring books, and have never been disappointed with Peter Pauper Press coloring books. I wish all coloring books were like this!
