A better way to save your teeth
This book actually shows you how to heal and preserve your teeth through nutrition. A wonderful side effect of following Mr. Nagel's advice is that every aspect of your health will also improve. He bases his system on the nutritional advice of two outstanding dentists: Dr. Weston A. Price and Dr. Melvin Page. Mr. Nagel has simplified these nutritional principles and gives specific advice on what to avoid, and what to eat. We have all been taught that the only way to preserve our teeth is through dentistry. Dentistry can be extremely painful, expensive, and ineffective. Most people who rely on conventional dentistry alone eventually end up with toxic fillings, caps, and/or root canals, a lot of pain, and a great deal of expense. The end result is that many of these people lose most of their natural teeth. A very different result was observed by Dr. Weston A. Price when he studied peoples who ate a traditional diet. They had neither dentists nor tooth decay. They kept all of their teeth, even in extreme old age. Mr. Nagel was faced with a terrible decision. The teeth of his very young daughter were so bad that she would require extensive dental work to save her teeth. Rather than condemn his daughter to dental torture, Mr. Nagel did his research and found another way to save her teeth. The results of his research are clearly described in this book, along with his methods for improving the health of teeth and gums. Mr. Nagel analyzes, explains, and covers every dental issue. He explains the real cause of tooth decay (it's not what you've been taught), and what you can do to stop it, and reverse it. He explains what toxins to avoid, what foods to avoid, and what foods you can eat to stop tooth decay and heal your teeth and gums. Mr. Nagel presents several different eating plans. I started with the easiest plan, and noticed an immediate improvement in the health of my teeth and gums. I've had no need to see a dentist since. This book convinced my wife to give up sugar and to eat butter from grassfed cows instead. Not only does this butter help provide the nutrition for healthy teeth and gums, it really satisfies, and greatly reduces the craving for sugar. Not only did the health of her teeth improve, but she lost two dress sizes. I particularly like how Mr. Nagel explains the hazards of modern dentistry, which uses many toxins, and the dangers of fluoride. Mr. Nagel never brings up a problem without suggesting a solution. The solutions he suggests will improve every aspect of your health. Mr. Nagel emphasizes the benefits of eating grassfed meat, a subject that is very important to me. I highly recommend this book for everyone who has teeth, and wants to keep them. Review is by Stanley A. Fishman, author of Tender Grassfed Meat: Traditional Ways to Cook Healthy Meat .

Great Book-Must Read
This is a very important book for anyone to read, not just if you have tooth issues. It is a must for anyone's "health" book collection. As a chiropractor I am always looking for books that promote and explain real nutrition, actually feeding the body real food vs fake, low fat, no fat, over processed pseudo-food and are readable. This book reiterates much of how I recommend people eat. It is well written and researched. When I first looked at the book, I thought $28 for a paper back? So I decided to get it from the library to check it out first. I must say, after about the first chapter I new this book was worth every penny. The author shares commonly unknown research from dental pioneer Dr Weston Price among others, that helps to debunk so much of the nutrition myths we are fed (no pun intended)in our society. Step by step instructions on how to heal tooth infections and cavities as well as how to strengthen and re-mineralize your teeth! I don't ever remember a dentist telling me that was even possible.I felt a couple of obvious things were missing for the amount of research the author had obviously done. Then when I actually bought the book, it was the next edition and the things I felt were missing, ie, more on whole food supplements and a certain company in particular, as well as blotting, a technique developed by Dr Phillips for healing gum disease, were actually in the new edition plus so much more. I read the first edition cover to cover and have not yet read all of the second edition, but I have skimmed through and have seen many more pertinent additions. I have been making the bone broth soup, taking more of the cod liver oil and butter oil and have recently found a farm that sells grass fed/organic meats and organs as well as bones for the soup. I actually look forward to my next dental trip :) The information is really basic, eat the way nature intended. I don't agree with every single statement he has on some foods, but for the most part, he is right on. Yes, it costs more to buy organic and grass fed and high quality cod liver and X-factor butter oil, but I would much rather spend good money on good nutritious food that will help this body to heal itself and keep my teeth, then pay a few hundred dollars to have a tooth pulled or maybe several hundred to thousands for crowns, root canals etc. This book and its recommendations are worth the investment. I even bought 3 other copies for family and friends and highly recommend it to my patients.

Excellent book with a wealth of valuable information
It was perhaps 25 years ago I initially learned about Weston Price's work in the early 19th century vis-a-vis the dental industry and the questionable nature of many of its "standard" practices. Within "Cure Tooth Decay" this author references Price's work in great detail and shares important information about why traditional dentistry is off base with respect to its core theory about the source of tooth decay, and how to combat it. In addition to systematically refuting the conventional approaches for treating many dental issues, he provides exceptional detail about "how" to heal teeth naturally through nutrition, including comprehensive suggestions for dietary choices that lead to the literal rebuilding of teeth from the inside out. While I personally am unwilling to apply all his dietary recommendations, I surely have applied several of them, including the regular consumption of healthy fats and the use of products like fermented cod liver oil, and have seen positive results in terms of the overall health of my teeth. Although it's likely that the ADA would consider Mr. Nagel a heretic since he so clearly challenges the status quo, the bottom line is that the truth hurts sometimes, and while unconventional, his recommendations work in practice.

Great book, more so on "nutritional changes" though...
This is a wonderful book & well written. But, there is no "Magic" pill or remedy that your going to find out about that takes away all your tooth/mouth issues. You must be will to completely change your eating habits & diet! It took your teeth YEARS to get this bad, & nothing will "fix" them overnight. I think for the average person w/ dental problems this book is a must read! But, if your someone that's eating HEALTHY, taking whole food supplements & is "up" on myths, pros, cons, of many toothpastes & dental products, well this might be redundant to you. Many of the things suggested can be easily found on the web now & on Health sites. Naturalnews.com is a wonderful one that tell you like it really is! Fluoride is BAD for you, & it's not proven to do anything for your teeth! Health "junkies" know this & much more. There are much better long used, proven natural things to aid in your tooth/Gum health. Natural oils ( oregano, antiseptic , pain killer etc.) which are great for your teeth & good for you as well ! Zeolite powder is also a wonderful "tooth powder" to brush with INSTEAD of store bought chemical filled toothpaste. The book is a good reference for ppl who don't know about healthy eating, natural remedies, & how your mouth is connected to your whole body! Mouth diseases can & will lead to other body/organ disease. But for the ones that are familiar with this kind of stuff already - then this book will not give you a "hidden" secret cure all... And if your NOT going to totally change your diet ( no junk, soda, many other snacks!) than its a waste of your time & money to get this book, because the big SECRET, well ...is your DIET! * just my 2cents. JR~. :)

I wish I read this book while I was growing up
I am very much a do-it-yourself person, and I wished I could take care of my teeth all on my own and that I never had to go to visit any dentists - now there is a hope that I can take much better care of my teeth than I suspected before. Years ago I met a woman who was about 50 years old and who had perfect teeth - she never had any dental problems and when I asked her for her secret she said throughout her life she brushed her teeth only with salt and sodium bicarbonate. It sounded pretty simple and I didn't give it much thought at a time, but if one cause of tooth decay is too much acid in saliva, then the fact that sodium bicarbonate would alkalinize the mouth and protect the teeth from decay would make sense. Putting few drops of clove essential oil, oregano oil, tea tree oil in a bit of sesame and olive oil as a base works great to kill infections and reduce pain. CoQ10 helps to strengthen the gums. The author of this book shares a nutritional protocol that would help to strengthen gums and teeth - the essence of which are common sense suggestions presented in any book on healing through nutrition, namely that we should eat food as close to their natural state as possible. This book has more specific food recommendations and even though the nutritional protocol is offered both for vegetarians and non-vegetarians, it seems that according to the author the optimal nutrition for better teeth consists of a good deal of meat and on top of it - raw meet, which may not be exactly the cup of tea of most people. The author doesn't seem sure whether vegetarian nutrition can provide sufficient nutrients, yet I can't help but think of countless people in India, for example, who are vegetarian and do have perfect teeth. The other day a friend of mine who often travelled to India mentioned that she met there a woman who was very poor and had barely enough food, but she had perfect teeth - the woman used to brush her teeth with earth and twigs from some tree (perhaps neem). The author shares several pictures of people whose nutrition was as close to nature of their region as possible and who had perfect teeth and beside them are pictures of people from the same region who fed themselves mostly with processed food that is popular in the "civilized" world. Those people had half of their teeth missing and they look more like extreme cases, nevertheless our bodies being like a chemical laboratories, with our cells constantly renewing, the body can renew itself only with the whatever we put into it and if we feed our bodies with food that has no nutritional value, no wonder that our bodies are falling apart. The author of this book doesn't claim that he has all the answers and ultimately we are encouraged to experiment, to listen to our bodies and to find out what works best for us. The book contains few recipes for making your own tooth powder and assortment of remedies for dealing with gum and tooth issues. He also provides addresses of several websites where you can find more resources. I do consider the book informative, inspiring and altogether helpful.

READ THIS BOOK!
After reading this wonderful book I started making my own Remineralizing Toothpaste. I am 67 and my dentist and hygienists could not believe the change in my mouth. My bone structure was better, my gums were healthy and thick...no plaque or tarter....they told me and my grandchildren "I don't know what you are doing but keep it up!!!" My daughter tried it because she said she was looking at some major work in her mouth. She brushed with it 2 times a day and never had to go to the dentist. Right before I started using this I had a cracked filling and the x-rays revealed a small cavity beginning in that area. I brushed this area very carefully until my appointment. They took off the old filling and there was no cavity!!! The dentist and dental tech just stared at one another and put a new filling back on! This is not just about teeth but diet. It offers lots of documented studies on our diets and how it affects our entire body including our teeth. It breaks open many of the current "diet fads" - in fact - some of the most popular foods that people are eating and they aren't doing anything but starving themselves. The teeth will tell. He also discusses mouth orthopedics NOT orthodontics and breaks apart the current standard in this area as well. Everyone needs to read this book.

The advice in this book really works.
About a month ago I noticed that my enamel was stripping off. I don't believe this was typical enamel erosion. I don't eat citrus fruits or drink soda, don't have gerd or acid reflux, and I'm not bulemic. I have patches and dull strips where there used to be shiny enamel. I bought this book and changed my diet immediately. Within a few weeks the stripping of the enamel stopped. And all of a sudden in a matter of days, I started noticing vast improvements in the surface of my teeth. I read that tooth structure is lattice like, and it really is. You can really see it! For a couple of days, I actually watched it re-knit, and some of the patches have shrunk, by refilling with shiny enamel. I cheated on my birthday and the progress slowed for several days and I didn't notice daily improvements. I am just starting to see them again. There will be no more cheating. I don't want to slow this down. My daughter just started getting her permanent teeth this spring and they don't have any shine to them at all. She is also getting some enamel finally. Hers doesn't have the appearance of lattice, yet. She is just now getting her first vertical lines. If I could capture this, I'd probably just post the pictures online for the whole world to see that dentists are wrong! Everywhere you read online, "enamel does not grow back..." But, it does. I don't think this is just the enamel "like" glassy coating that Rami refers to. I really believe this is actual enamel re-knitting. My husband is getting improvements in his teeth as well. A couple of his molars appeared to have black decay in them, and the blackness is fading away. A bonus from this diet, is that I am finally starting to absorb my nutrients. Both myself and my daughter suffer from deficiencies caused by malabsorption. We are both doing better. And the proof for me, besides my teeth healing, is that my prematurely gray hair is reversing. Premature gray hair is caused by a lack of minerals. So, I must be absorbing some finally. This book shows you how important proper nutrition is, not just for teeth but for all health. The teeth are not just for eating. They are not unnecessary and expendible. They are keys to your health. They can tell you when something is wrong in your body. Dentures can't do that. If you have cavities, or enamel issues, it's not just a "dental" issue. It's a HEALTH issue. And fillings are just a bandaid. You MUST take responsibility and take control of your health. Only YOU can do that. No doctor or dentist can do that for you. It is hard work. Change is not easy, and not always fun. But it is SO WORTH the effort. Not only will you feel better physically because you're getting proper nutrition, you will feel good knowing that YOU did this for yourself. No bandaids, no magic pills. I also recommend Sally Fallon's, Nourishing Traditions book along with your purchase of Ramiel Nagel's, Cure Tooth Decay. Her book will help you keep with the guidelines that Rami suggests in this book. I just want to add a thank you to Rami for his hard work and dedication to writing this book.

Good Points Offered--but Don't Let This Be The Only Book You Read
The author is good about establishing that dental decay and inflammation are not primarily caused by bacteria but by the internal nutrition people are lacking these days. For example, a person who does not get enough calcium, phosphates, iron and other tooth-building minerals, WILL get rampant cavities--even if they keep their mouths sterile and well-brushed. His critique of foods that should be consumed, however, leave the reader feeling afloat in a world of contradictions. He keeps saying liver, bone broth soups, cooked vegetables, raw dairy and rare meats are good. But who among the common man can afford to have all grass-fed, cleanly processed, small production foods? And who wants to eat liver as the "cure-all" for vitamins A and D? He is clearly setting an ideal in this book, not practical, every-day advise. It is a good book to help you start thinking deeply about what you eat in this modern convenience-food market. He spends time explaining how not only nutrients but blood sugar fluctuations can leech tooth-building minerals away from your body (a very interesting concept). However, a mis-trust of everything seems to become a theme in the book. When he starts saying raw vegetables and whole grains are bad because of plant toxins, that's where I start mis-trusting his advice. Overall, however, this is a good book to read to help you start a good dialogue of questions and answers between you and your dentist. It has motivated me and to find a dentist willing to take a holistic look at my dental health since, despite all the dental regimens I follow, I still seem to get plagued with cavities. It gives me hope to be able to better my dental situation. It makes me wonder if I can find a D.M.D. instead of a D.D.S. for a dentist. Best of luck as you read this book on your journey to being empowered in taking care of your overall health and your dental health!
