It is just wrapped....
I thought this was pretty cool and worked well. The first time I washed it the paper that's wrapped around the mug fell off. It was literally a one time use mug. waste. don't waste your money getting or gifting to someone.

Crack mug cover up
After reading the reviews, I checked the mug for cracks. I was hopeful I wouldn't run into that problem but to my surprise it was cracked. You can see how the crack was glued to a precision . Smh. The biggest disappointment of it all, it was a Christmas gift for my son that he couldn't received.
