In an effort to be higher off the floor, can it be used while folded up?

No it will not be sturdy enough. The bottom and top of the beam are not the same size. The bottom is flat and wider so it will be sturdy on the floor when opened but the top is narrower so when you fold it and place on the floor it will tip.

Is this beam good for Back Handspring training?'

I would think so..it was for my granddaughters to practice beam cartwheels and such..it would be a safe way to practice .

What kind of package is this delivered in?

Mine wasn't in a box. It came in plastic and wrapped in plastic tarp material like someone else said.

How would this stand up to athletic shoes? I can not walk without shoes.
