Expensive yes, but a high quality product.
Over the last few months I have been rebuilding my Raleigh Record. I put a six speed freewheel on the back, and I spent some money on the Velo Orange crankset. I love it. I have long since forgotten about the price tag. This is a well made, beautiful product from a company which I gather specializes in the retro parts. I use this with a basic KMC chain, a Tourney rear derailleur from Shimano, a Sora front derailleur (also from Shimano), and some indexed downtube shifters from Suntour. It has been three months now. I commute to work about 7 miles a day. I took the bike on a 40 mile ride through the rolling hills of northern New Jersey. I have had little to complain about, and none of those complaints have anything to do with this crankset.
