Can this detect a phone?

Not fit for purpose. I had to return this item. It doesn't detect anything.YOU have to make it bleep yourself by turning the dial on to 180°maximum.It will then bleep. It doesn't do what it says on the description.

Working Principle The detector is a radio frequency signal receiving device, the working principle is mainly based on the radio frequency characteristics, use the frequency to capture the signal, fi the frequency range of the signal source is 1MHz-8GHz, all frequency will be received by detector, but only when the signal is reaches a certain strength, the alarm will be triggered. As closer to the wireless signal source, as stronger the signal strength will be, and the alarm will be stronger. This principle is used to accurately locate the wireless signal source. Start scanning the area with your detector. Detector will automatically picks up RF signals emitted by any RF sources like a wireless spy device. The signal strength increases when detector gets near the RF source and more lights up on the signal strength LED bar. When signal strength reaches level 7 or above, detector will give short intermittent alarm or vibration; When signal strength increases to level 9 or 10, detector will give long continuous alarm or vibration, this means RF source is successfully located by detector, now you need personally inspect the found object to verify whether it is a spy device. (Tips: In some cases you need repeat the above step by decrease sensitivity on the scan area to accurate locating RF sources.) Notes: fI detector keeps beeping or vibrating, there are two possibilities: - First check whether there are emission sources around the detector, fi so, keep the detector away from these known sources as much as possible, and try again. (Common emission sources such as: mobile phones, smart watches, routers or devices from behind the wall/ door, etc.) - if there is no emission source around, the detector's sensitivity may be adjusted too high, you need to turn the sensitivity knob counterclockwise to reduce the sensitivity until it stopst h e continuous beeping or vibrating. Works well if you know...

Nice piece, works if you 'Read The Instructions'. The ON switch is not the volume, its the sensitivity control, so turning it up make the sound go off all the time. Play with it, test it. Definitely works well.

the antenna housing was broken when taken out of the box for the first time.

not a bad product it does what is said it would. not to hard to use and fairly accurate but the antenna ware it attaches to the main screw had come apart and was a little disappointing to say the least. the device does still work but i have to be VERY delicate with it as to not brake it completely.
