Review: This is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL reading for Dads-to-be. I can't emphasise it enough really. Even if you're somehow super-confident that you're going to be the world's best Dad, this will still be useful, and if like me you are bricking it somewhat, this book is definitely worth it. In a very chatty, casual, knowing way, Rob Kemp goes through what you'll need to know as a normal Dad through the nine months of pregnancy and the first six weeks after birth. It's straightforward, simple, and backed up with just the right amount of facts and figures to make it knowledgeable without being too dry or dull. After an initially quite 'blokey' introduction which put me off a little, it settles down into a nice style which is like getting good advice from a friend. It covers an awful lot of subjects, ranging from the practical (buying a new car? buying a pram? moving house?) to the emotional (how's she feeling? what do you do about the depression? can you help?), all in reasonable detail. Unlike a couple of other father-to-be books I've already read, this book is almost entirely positive. While it doesn't shy away from the occasional sensitive subject (SIDS, risks of miscarriage etc.), and it's very frank about how there will be an awful lot of poo and bad smells and that the birth will not be pretty, it still really supports the whole feel-good factor of how exciting and unbelievably good it's all going to be. It's got just the right level of encouragement. It's broken down into four-week blocks, giving you a rough guide to what you might think about doing in each month. Even if like us you're already five months in, it's still worth reading from the beginning, and reading ahead too. This book was just what I needed and hopefully it'll be right for you too. Review: Very good book helped my husband a lot
