For 10 bucks, this is a great first chess set ! Obtained two for a local elementary school and the kids love 'em !! Solid pieces, not hollow, and have a bit of heft. Board is really pretty. For kids this kind of set is perfect !!!

Solid plastic Staunton pieces in a reasonable, portable package. “Crazy Games” is printed in small letters outside of the squares, not on them. I highly recommend this for recreational use over any of the affordable wood sets on Amazon.

This is actually a good chess set for the money. The pieces are substantial and not just hollow. If they are, they have a cap on the bottom to make them feel less cheap. The board itself seems substantial, albeit mine doesn't sit completely flat. Heavy books for a few days can fix that. There are only two issues: 1) It would be nice to have extra queens, although I understand most budget chess sets don't. 2) The box is very flimsy/cheap feeling. It's a slight step above a fast food nugget box, but this was an area where they didn't need to cut costs, imo. Even substantial board game boxes split over time. I can only imagine this will split in less than half the time. I recommend the chess set regardless. The board will still say Silly Goose, but it's now to the side, not in the middle like the Amazon page picture.I'd pay a little more for a sturdier box. I'd even pay a little more for checker pieces to be included.

Look, it's an $8 chess set. The pieces are big and well made, the board is printed fine. This would be perfect for a classroom.

My husband loves chess and was eager to teach our young kids. This chess set was well built, had clear and easy instructions, and was great for playing a game. There are many sets out there that are fancy, made of glass, intricate figures and boards, and so on, but this simple set was just fine for my family. After almost 4 years, it is still holding together nicely and in almost the same condition as when we purchased it.

I'm actually really impressed with the quality of the board & pieces! I went with the cheaper one because this is for my 8 year old who just recently started playing.. and I'm glad this is the one I chose! The pieces have a decent weight to them and the board isn't at all flimsy. I'd definitely go with this chess set if you're looking for something cheap & well put together!!

Chess board and pieces came intact and ok but the original box was damaged.
