Smooth, Quiet, and Reliable Garage Door Opener
Smooth, Quiet, and Reliable Garage Door Opener I installed the Genie ChainMax 1000 to replace an aging opener, and the difference is night and day. The 140V DC motor runs surprisingly quiet for a chain-drive model—smooth enough that you don’t get the usual clunky rattle when the door moves. Setup was straightforward; the included Safe-T-Beams synced right away, and the remotes were pre-programmed so they worked out of the box without any fiddling. I really like the wireless keypad option—it makes it easy for family members to get in without carrying a remote, and the wall console is responsive with a light control feature that’s handy in the garage. The dual remotes are compact but solidly built, and the signal strength has been reliable even from a distance. The chain feels sturdy and the whole unit gives a sense of durability. That said, it’s still a chain drive, so if absolute silence is your priority, a belt-driven model might be a better fit. Also, professional installation could make sense if you’re not comfortable with DIY electrical or ladder work, but the instructions were clear enough for me to manage on my own. Bottom line: This is a strong, well-designed garage door opener that balances quiet operation with the durability of a chain drive. It’s reliable, easy to use, and a great upgrade for anyone looking for dependable daily performance.

Glad we got this one!
Not knowing anything about openers, I took a shot at the one I believed was the best for the money. We have a 2 car insulated garage door and this thing handles it with no problem. Not slow, not fast, just right and even though it's chain drive, it's surprisingly VERY quiet! Can barely hear it in the kitchen right next to the garage. Installation was pretty easy, replacing the old unit and track. Instructions were written very well. Definitely recommend.

Compact and quiet opener
Very satisfied with the quiet operation of this chain-drive opener. Installation was straight-forward; take the time to watch installation video(s) online to get a helpful overview of the entire procedure before you begin. The instructions are ok; the colored bags of fasteners help a lot as you go through the steps. After removing the old opener, I spent an entire afternoon installing this new one, being fussy with measuring and wiring. For safety and convenience, have someone help for a few minutes to lift and steady the assembled opener for the elevated portion of the install; fortunately, the unit is more bulk than it is heavy. In comparison to the old Sears opener it replaced, this Genie seemed like a feather. Programming the close and open limits was easy, and the down and up pressures set automatically. It accepts two regular LED bulbs for decent illumination of the garage space. Since this was a workshop application, I didn't sync the opener to a vehicle, but programming the fob was easy. Two fobs are included along with a wall control, plus an outdoor pad! It's hard to imagine this unit will last 40+ years like the old Sears model but many of the Genie features are clearly superior to the old unit. Bottom line: I will be buying another Genie Chain Max for the other overhead door in the future. Recommended!

Not an easy install, but good result.
I chose to have the installation included, I have mixed feelings about the way it worked out. I had called Genie and they acted as if it would in essence be one of their people doing the install, but it was farmed out and then that company contracts someone to do the work. So I was a little bit deceived, I thought that it was going to be somebody installing it, that that is all they do for a living, so I think because of that it just ended up taking way too long. They contacted me if I wanted a time earlier than 5 p.m., I said yes, yet it ended up being a 6:30 start and the guy was still at my house at 12:30AM! and as things turned out it wasn't completed until later on Saturday. One of the difficulties is that Genie really doesn't provide enough appropriate materials, so we had to use some of my old aluminum framing in order to properly support the motor, we also had to use a piece of material from the old install to hook into the shaft of the tract and mount the other end on framing above, we had to jury-rig something there in order to give the proper stability to the track, as it was bowing a little bit. Going back to the aluminum framing for the motor area they actually want you to bend it which I venture to say 4 the home DIY person that could cause some difficulties, they really should ship that piece pre-bent, likewise they should provide enough materials as previously mentioned to support the motor you don't want that to be at all Wiggly, that should just be standard in what they ship out along with about a 18 to 25 inch long shaft of some sort that you can use to support the track. I think the technician did a very good job given the materials provided he also helped in some other ways that was very supportive, even with that said there really should be a technician sent out that's all they do is install garage door openers and equally important Genie should be sending out the proper product support. I will say this, from the years of owning a Genie garage door opener they are very very good in their customer support, probably about the best of any company I can think of, but they need to rethink what they're selling you in a new unit. Once we got everything completed the unit functions very well so far, it doesn't make much noise at all and I actually like the way it goes down a bit slowly I think on the up as well, it's just more controlled, doesn't shake around like my old unit, one of the reasons why I got this one is my old unit was only 1/2 horsepower this one is 3/4 horsepower and I have an older garage door a single piece unit which I think it's also more challenging on the install than the roll up. I would suggest if you're going to purchaese the installation, do it first thing in the morning are no later than about 3 in the afternoon, I have some challenges with my schedule so I was attempting to do it at 5 p.m. that's too late these things can be quite tricky to install particularly when all of the necessary supporting product is not included.

Better than my old unit
Almost as quiet as a belt, but more durable. Easy to install but instructions poor especially about how to get pieces out of box without knotting chain. Nice to have transmitters preset.

Nice. Quiet. Smooth.
After a couple months, I really like this opener. It was easy enough to install - though I think it has too many pieces - but the instructions were clear enough and the illustrations are effective. Wired it into the old switch and that worked fine. Had to short circuit the stupid LED safety eyes because that is not applicable in my situation. (Wish they would provide a switch to bypass it, but whatever.) Now in operation, it works flawlessly. Much quieter than previous, and the operation is smooth. It's a bit slow, but not really a problem. If there is one suggestion: There is far too much packaging. The trash was almost as heavy as the opener :) Oh well. I'm happy with the purchase.

Well worth the money.
Well worth the money. We've never had a garage door opener and we are 2 women in our 60's that installed it our selves with just a little cursing. It really wasn't that bad. Followed the directions and watched some YouTube videos. It's very quiet and smooth. Would definitely recommend this garage door opener.
