DIY hair at home- yes you can do it! And no $200+ salon bill to pay!🙌🏻
Okay hear me out!! DIY boxed hair dye to use at home.. yup sounds terrifying. I’ve never dyed my hair myself or anywhere other than at a well known salon with someone I trust with my life to do it for me. Well these days who has $200+ to throw at a salon?! Enter, the Clairol demi-permanent hair dye in cool light brown. This is super close to the same color my hairdresser used on me when I decided to go back to my natural hair color after being blonde for over a decade. Well after paying so much to get it redone a few times as it washed out and grew, I had to consider my DIY options. 👇🏻 I added before and afters for reference of course but wow 🤩 LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! First off, this color is great and really brought my hair back to life with covering up the blonder color that is growing out still (see my before photos for reference- it’s grown out like halfway-ish so far). The cool light brown color has no warm tones in it. I do not do warm/red tones of any kind in my hair and it would not go with my skin tone so it’s important that I found something that is strictly cool color tones. This also covered up my grays that I unfortunately already have on the top smack dab middle of my head so that was a nice bonus! Second, the dye adds a CRAZY amazing glossy look and feel to your hair. I am most definitely using this again in a couple months if not just for the glossy effect ✨ It revived my hair and brought me back from drab to fab! The application is super easy- I mixed it up as instructed and poured the whole bottle all over my head and made sure to cover it all. 20 minutes of sitting and then showering it off and voila!🤌🏻 Not to mention, they include a conditioner with this and it is amazing!! Also adds glossiness to my hair everytime I use it. There is plenty of conditioner to use and maintain for after the dye job which is nice. I only wash my hair once a week so I expect it to tide me over until I dye it again. Again, my photos here speak for themselves but go ahead and DIY that sh*t girl! We saving moneys in 2026 okurrr 💅

Color looks natural goes on better
I naturally have light brown hair and I've been doing medium brown for many many years. I tried a mushroom blonde and I liked it but it was a little bit too light. I tried this color and it was just right it was great because it spread on my hair better than most most are too thick and they don't spread well and doesn't look natural this one spread really well look very natural dark enough to make me feel like my face is framed but light enough to feel natural. It went on very well it looked very well and it has lasted an extremely long time.

Love the colour and grey blending
My hair usually pulls reds, so I was a bit hesitant to try another new colour. I used to use a lighter shade, but it just never worked. Went for the light ash brown (6a) and I feel like this is the colour for me. Followed the instructions exactly...and I will add that before colouring with a demi/semi I always wash a day ahead with shampoo and I do not condition it. After colouring I do not wash the product out with shampoo (only water and then the provided conditioner), and I don't wash my hair for at least 2 days after. I don't have a lot of grey, but I had at least a couple inches of pretty heavy grey roots and I think they're blended quite nicely. In fact, this turned out way better than the demi I had at the salon for $150 a few months ago! Only complaint I have is that for some reason I found this time to be quite irritating to my scalp and skin around sideburn areas, by ears and forehead. First time I'm noticing that. Seemed weird. Sure hope that it's better next time. The irritation did go away after rinsing entirely. If this colour is available in a local store I'd be tempted to buy it from there next so I can compare experiences. I have sensitive skin, so don't enjoy when something really bothers me. Overall pleased and will likely buy again.

7A and 6A. Lots of red undertones. Do a TEST swatch.
Quick update...and raising from 4 to 5 stars. I used this 6 weeks ago and only now is the color beginning to fade around the temples and a bit at the roots, but it is so nice and gradual. No harsh lines. I love semi-permanent. I wash 3-4x a week. I have to say I am impressed, and I will do this again in a few weeks. It's lasting way long than advertised. I thought it looked red at first but after a week that faded a bit I guess? And suddenly this older now single lady has far more love interests than only 2 months ago...I wanna see where this goes... Still advise doing test strands! Original review: Back when I was 30% gray, 6A was my go-to semipermanent color. I loved it and used it for years, but during COVID I let my hair totally wash out, and then later just grow out. But 6A was a perfect match for light ashy brown. I'm about 60%gray now. I decided to try it again... I tried 6A (darker vertical, right image) and also something kinda fun maybe... 7A to hopefully add some blonde highlights to the gray (left image) Swatches are 25 minutes of 7A, and 6A, from the gray-est hairs, showing some representative strands of my natural gray and natural mousey ash brown. Both are red..6A is a little better in the image but really in just about all other lighting it's "red". Not the 6A I remembered! Want to remind people to do a test every time you color.
