How durable is this plastic? If my kids bite into it, will it show teeth marks?

If they were to bite really hard or continuously than it would show teeth marks. I find the plastic to be durable. Not like the really cheap play foods that easily flatten. This is a good quality set. I love it.

What is the difference between the red and blue sets

The blue set includes: proteins (steak, veggie patty, chicken breast, shrimp), grains and starches (rice and beans, 2-part burger bun, sweet potato fires, baked potato), vegetables (peas, broccoli, corn on the cob), and desserts chocolate cake, 2 apple slices, chocolate chip cookie, ice cream cone), as well as a four-sided menu and information card. The red set includes: proteins (BBQ ribs, chicken drumstick, lamb chops, salmon), vegetables and beans (baked beans, cauliflower, green beans, carrots), grains and starches (macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, rice), and fruit and desserts (cupcake, orange, Brownie, Apple Pie). identify the pieces and order meal combos with the reusable, full-color menu card. It just depends what you're hungry for!

It says for 3+, is there lead or cadimum in this?

It's made with PVC - without phthalate but PVC can still have dioxin - a carcinogen and also lead! :( Wish it weren't PVC - it's cute but there are other cute toy foods on Amazon made out of healthier plastics. Amazon lets you ask the companies.

Is this both bpa and pvc free? even if kids don't put it in their mouth it can leach chemicals on their hands.

No, this is made with PVC. I called Melissa and Doug. The rep said it's PVC - phthalate-free. But then there can still be dioxin (a carcinogen - cancer-causing) VOCs and lead. There are lots of toy foods on Amazon not made with PVC. I plan to buy those. Just ask the companies what plastic they are made of. Amazon lets you write them.
