Added Light to the darkness I call life.
With my trusty flash light by my side I was able to conquer the darkness I call an attic. As I climbed the attic stairs, I got a sudden chill down my back. There was no turning back now. As I crested the attic stairs I could feel eyes on me instantaneously. I just kept thinking to my self, "you got a job to do, there's no time to panic." As I powered on my flash light and saw the dim light coming out. I knew time was not on my side. As I had gone to far and couldn't turn back now to get new batteries. I took a deep breath and braced my consequences as I began to venture across my attic to restore the light. At this point my light had run out of batteries and I was now working in the dark. As I made it closer to my destination I felt something rub against my leg. I began to panic and kick around trying to avoid and escape whatever was attacking me. Just when I thought all hope was lost, I remembered my cellular telephone had a flash light on it. I could only pray that I remembered to charge it the previous night. I was able to grab my phone and power it on. Lucky enough I had plenty of charge and the flash light was super bright. I looked down and saw that my attacker was nothing more than a piece of BX cable. Relief quickly passed over me. As I made it to my destination I knew the hard part was behind me. With ease I was able to replace my porcelain fixture and was able to restore light to the darkness I call an attic. I can see clearly now. As I climbed down the stairs after the job was done, I was able to reflect on my time in the darkness and saw that If I can conquer this, I can conquer anything life has to throw at me. Overall, this porcelain fixture is amazing and completely changed my life for ever. Came exactly as described. Thanks a bunch for the adventure of a life time.

The hole spacing are not made to fit a 1930s box
I'd give it a 5 star if my house was modern. The pull cord switch mechanism is extremely smooth-functioning and well built. It can handle wall mounts like mine or ceiling mounts smoothly. I think it will last. . . I installed it on an old electrical box... My house was built in the 1930s. The spacing for the screws on this new porcelain fixture are too wide, even after I chipped out the knockouts. There are no other install options because there are no other holes on this fixture. Has the spacing for the screws on light fixture boxes changed since nineteen thirties? Yes, the screw spacing for light fixture boxes has changed since the 1930s. Originally, the standard screw spacing was 2 3/4 inches (like my house) which is now outdated for many modern fixtures that require larger spacing (like this fixture) such as 3.5 inches or this fixture which is adjustable from about 3 inches to 4.5 inches. This change reflects the evolution in fixture designs and installation standards over the decades. So I can't recommend this fixture for an old house. If your house is old, measure the screw spacing on the electrical box onto which you're mounting the fixture and buy a fixture with more choices for screw spacing. Like the one in the third photo. I had to bend the ears on the old electrical box to make this fit at all. And even then, I couldn't screw it all the way flat to the box. Look at the second picture. It should be flat, with no gap. To go flat, I would have had to bend the ears even further and screw the screws in at an even wider angle. I didn't feel like bending the ears any more, so I settled for this gap because it's not in a dangerous location. Now, I think I should've just continued to bend the ears even more. I was considering taking the whole thing down, sending it back and using a second fixture which I had also bought on Amazon, but the second fixture's pull switch mechanism was poor quality and felt like it might break over time... like the plastic fixture I bought at Home Depot - $6 - fit perfectly but its pull switch mechanism broke after only 2 months.

Easy to Install and Sturdy
Electrician said that to replace the broken one in the basement I had to get a ceramic one per local building code. Found many plastic ones online before finding this one. Price was great, item shipped quickly, and electrician said it was exactly what he needed.

Old School
Nice that we can still get these. I broke one (too much torque on the mounting bolt), epoxied it with West System, and used it the next day. They work beautifully. My decor is arts and crafts. I build paper and wood shades for them; they fit right in. :)

Easy to install - for non electricians like us.
what is disliked is that the delivery man tossed it on the center of my porch instead of putting it near my door like the other delivery people do. I was at the door waiting for it when I heard the thud. But for the fixture I love it - I had a tenant move out and she trashed my studio apartment. She took the light fixture in the closet and left the wires dangling - I had to figure out how to replace it and gave this one a shot. It was a perfect fit and so easy to install. Simple instructions a 1st grader could understand them. Had to but the longer pull string due to high ceilings. Can't find these at the big home improvement stores like Home Depot or Lowes. Why I love Amazon.
