Connectivity with a decent price tag!
I was hoping to buy a hub for my pre-USB C MacBook that would do everything (power, displays, audio, etc.) but struggled to find anything south of £300 that would do it all. I eventually gave in, opting to drop the power functionality and got one of these instead. I was very sceptical at first, thinking the HDMI was not working...turned out I needed to allow screen share on my laptop. I was also getting a load buzz from the audio out...turned out that was my faulty cable! Once I sorted those two things, everything worked perfectly! In a perfect world, there would be more USB ports and the ability to power my laptop...but I can’t complain for the price I paid.

Fabulous dock for Mac (or PC), but doesn't work with most streaming services
Excellent dock, and refurbished at this price, just amazing. It does almost everything I wanted, and makes my desk much tidier 'cause all those separate cables I used to have to plug directly into my Mac can now be replaced with one USB connector (and the power supply). If I had a later MacBook with only two ports this would be even more useful.Install the drivers (different versions depending on whether you want to use your laptop in "clamshell" mode or not) and it just works. There is only one drawback: On my current version of MacOS (Catalina) the DisplayLink driver works by using the operating system's ability to allow recording of screens to redisplay the content on monitors connected to the dock. However a number of streaming services, including Netflix and NowTV, detect this, as they won't allow illicit recording of their content, and blank the screen. So if you're planning on using this device on a system where you also want to watch some form of streaming, then you might want to do a bit more research first.I *believe* but have been unable to confirm with DisplayLink, that this isn't a problem with Big Sur or Monterey versions of MacOS. Good luck.

Looks great, has all the connections I needed, but doesnt last the test of time....
Ive purchased two of these now, first about 6 years ago, it was all good until eventually it just died of death and couldnt get anything from it, no display, keyboard or anything attached to it, so because warranty expired, got a new one, again all good up until now, one of my monitors its flickering on and off, thought it was my monitor, but connected directly to a laptop, all good no flickers at all, so seems again docking station is at fault, the middle hdmi port appears to be at fault.Considering the cost, you would expect this to be quality, but seems to be an issue, I have a very unique setup, 3 hp monitors 2 display port and 1 dvi, so this dock has 2 DP and the middle is hdmi, so I have hdmi connected to dvi and the the 2 DP to DP on the other monitors. Everything has been fine at first then now I have an issue with the hdmi port flickering on and off every few minutes. I have checked everything, cables, power, drivers etc... as I said connected directly to the monitor in question via the same cable, stable and no issue, as soon as I connect the hub back into the usb on my pc, the middle monitor hdmi starts to flicker again.

Good laptop dock, but could be better
I have brought quite a few universal laptop docks for customers and these Startech models have always proven reliable. They work well and have a few extra USB 3 ports, an ethernet port and a choice of 3 monitor outputs - VGA, HDMI and DVI. Although it has 3 monitor outputs, the hub only actually supports 2 monitors and you also need to be aware that the VGA and HDMI ports are linked, so you can only use one of these at a time. You have to use a combination of the VGA / DVI ports or the HDMI / DVI ports.

Fantastic Docking Station
Delivery was nice a prompt (given the current COVID 19 Lockdown). The dock itself worked without issue on my Windows 10 laptop and Dell P2412H monitors, which are connected via the DVI port.Setup was effortless, no need for drivers and everything worked right away. The rapid charging ports on the front are a lifesaver, with the unit providing ample USB connectivity on the rear too.A good buy that saved me having to mess around with port adapters and was literally plug and play out of the box.
