Great pencils and a great price!
These are great pencils for a child or an adult. The 50 pack provides a nice variety of colors. And I like the Crayola pencils because they do not seem to be made from rubberwood (important if you or someone in your home has a latex allergy) like many other brands are now using in their pencils and they contain no smelly cedar wood (great if anyone in your home has asthma). Another reason I like Crayola's pencils is because they will produce color with a light touch. Some colored pencils I have tried require you to push quite hard to get color onto the page. Which can be fatiguing after awhile for a typical person if they color for long periods of time. But I have a neuromuscular disease so I really appreciate not having to use a lot of strength to get these pencils to transfer color. Also if you are working with a child with motor skill issues, you will appreciate that they don't have to push as hard to get them to color - which is often an issue with kids with autism or other issues that can present with motor skill difficulties or delays. Just keep the pencils sharpened and they will write with ease. My daughter with autism loves to color with these pencils. Myself and my other children all use them as well. The price on Amazon seem to fluctuate quite a bit depending on who the seller is, but if you keep an eye on the price you can often purchase them sold by Amazon at a very affordable price and shipped through Prime, it's a great deal. Just a tip: I keep them in a short, wide-mouth style, canning jar. That way they are easy to reach and easy to see the colors that you have to choose from. The glass jar is heavy enough that they don't topple over on us while trying to choose a pencil. And we can easily transport them around the house or outside, depending on where we are coloring.

You Can Always Trust Crayola
I DO love having these colors at my disposal, no mixing paints or cleaning brushes. I am a semi-professional artist. I once sold a hubcap for $300! I sold three more, not as heavily endeavored, to a friend, who had $65 for me. I understood he wanted to pay a lot more, but he worked for a certain salary and no more. I once (foolishly) turned down an offer of $900 for an octagonal abstract piece, done with antique vinyl-type tiles. It was as large as a table top. A therapist asked if I could give her some of my work, as she really liked it. I made color copies of my pieces (8 1/2" x 11"). She wanted to pay me, but therapuetic ethics were not in favor of that, but I was just pleased that she liked my art and I still retained the original paintings, abstract, acrylic paints on acid-free white copy paper. Someday I hope to achieve a very worthy work using these Crayola colors. I hope to see MORE colors! I'd love a box of say, 200 colors! BUT - with a guarantee that I can cheaply purchase a replacement if I have a lost or ruined pencil - a set like this would be a considerable investment for me, on my income. I have glimpsed "rumors" that there will be a set of 100 colors made! I intend to invest in these, learn them, enjoy them, create something spectacular and valuable with them. It is time for me to branch out from painting with acrylics (only buy Liquitex if you plan to mix your own colors). I am quite gifted with mixing color, especially after taking a color theory class at the college level. It is largely a matter of experience, seeking out color theory educational matter, and buying the right paints to begin with. In cheap paints, the red always has a bit of black in it, the blue also, and the yellow has a bit of white. For cans of paint, get the colors you want by the can, pre-mixed. Believe me, it's important. One of my ambitions is to become an abstract mural painter, but I can do some realism, too, though it's much, much harder. As a teen, when all the stuff in one's brain is going crazy, sprouting neurons and dendrites and axons and gypsies, that's when, if you have a small native talent for something, you are supposed to finish developing into the best you can be. I was forced to do housework and cooking for six as well as my homework...la madrustra malvado la diabla. I accidentally got better at art even though I had little time or energy to do it. I took a year of Commercial Art in Advertising before I was promoted to become a McDonald's Certified Swing Manager, eligible for promotion. (My life took a different path). I love these colors and tell everybody to never use anything but CRAYOLA because they are superior to anything else on the market, and that's because the other stuff is second-rate and inferior, in my opinion, which is the point of my review! : )

Better than Prang brand
These are great for my coloring activity books. I make it a habit to read lower numbered reviews to see what others have issues with. It seems as if it depends on what you're doing with these pencils and want to achieve. I cannot attest to kid friendly but as an adult, the Crayola pencils are a holy grail. To those who are complaining about breakage, get yourself a decent pencil sharpener, preferably metal not plastic. Sharpening these pencils can be tricky but from experience, on a two sided sharpener, use the larger hole, not the smaller and on an angle, slow and with two hands, otherwise it will break. Also, decrease the pressure with your fingers, a hard hand is never a good thing. Crayola long colored pencils give wonderful results. A hard long stroke gives the boldest color. If you wish to increase color temperature, these are super blendable and very smooth. With Prang, this doesn't happen- the colors are not as acute. I can sit for hours using these and blending with the other colors, create results based on what the drawing is. Short fast strokes produces a hair effect. I'm not going to bore anyone who reads this review with pencil techniques, but with the price, and the 50 pieces inside the box, the quality is exactly what I needed. The con for me was the packaging, I'm not a fan of boxes. I like my colored pencils in a upright position to see them. I used a cylinder shaped can ( from asparagus ), decorated it with duck tape, and voila- instant pencil holder. Hope my words can be of benefit for someone.
