Self-Paced Training Kit Exam 70-642: Configuring Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure

This book does a good job covering the topics that it does cover. Be warned that it definitely does not cover everything you will see on the exam. Two examples of this are DHCP conflicts and DNS SPF records. Get this book and take the practice exam. Then go through all the links and articles provided in the explanation of the practice exam answers.The labs in the book are great but when the author tells you to try out labs using other configurations for a topic...HE MEANS IT.

I ordered this for my son who was required to have it for a college computer class he is taking. It was received in new condition but was delivered slowly it seemed. The order may have been needed to be ordered earlier but we did not know what book he needed until the order was placed.Also, there was no tracking information until two days before the book arrived. We found this really irritating. The packing that the book came in was adequate and not wasteful.

Overall, this book provides a reasonable coverage of most of the exam requirements. Although some of the explanations tend to be confusing, and the command line tools are not adequately discussed, the presentation of the key concepts tends to align reasonably well.The reality of the new generation of MS exams is you MUST work with the product to actually see and understand the product. There are a large number of practical labs that will help to reinforce the concepts, although I'm not certain how well this book will help someone with minimal Windows experience.

100 % recomendable product.Like new. Easy reading. it shouldn't be your single source of studying. Need another book or videos to compliment, especially if you have no hands on experience. However, I've read a lot of IT certification study guides and this by far the best. It's very readable and it explains things very clearly and thoroughly. It's also to the point(not longer than it needs to be) and laid out in a way that at least works very well for me.

The book is ok for the material it covers. The problem is that the book doesn't cover everything that is on the exam. I would have hoped that the "Microsoft Press" books would cover all the material required to pass a Microsoft exam. I guess not...

There are some errors in the text labs in particular. Should not happen with a text book. Please fix it.

The information in this book and others like it is basic at best and does not prepare you at all for the type of questions that the exam will ask. Most of the answers for that information is gained through reading copious amounts of hard-to-find KB articles on MS's site. I would recommend saving the money and studying off of practice questions you find elsewhere.

Great content, I can recall answers to actual questions on the exam. I read the Sybex manual as well, this has more practical information and more relevant to the exam.
