desertcart.com: Mama Day (Vintage Contemporaries): 9780679721819: Naylor, Gloria: Books Review: A Masterpiece of Magic, Love, and Legacy - Mama Day completely captivated me. Gloria Naylor weaves magic, history, and love into a story that feels both timeless and deeply personal. The characters are vivid, especially Mama Day—wise, mystical, and unforgettable. The dual narratives pull you in and hold you tight until the very last page. This novel is a brilliant blend of folklore and emotional depth, and I’ll be thinking about it for a long time. A must-read! Review: A Great Read... - The old ladies with their southern dialect and sharp wisdom made me chuckle as I thought about all of the wise women I have encountered and the similar things they told me. I rated this book 5 Stars because the author weaves a story laced with pearls of wisdom, love, and human nature. With a touch of fictional history, mystery, and southern "magic", this book a great reference book for those who know what to do with it. Might want to re read this one as the story switches characters and scenes without warning; makes it kind of difficult to keep the story lines straight and whose who. So I will definitely re-read this novel again before my summer ends. May the ancestors be pleased with your life's work Gloria Naylor. Ase'!

Dry good
I enjoyed the book. It took a minute because it jumped from narrator to narrator, but I liked the characters very much.

Read it and all of this authors work
This book is so lovely that I dont want to finish it, because then I wont have it to read anymore, and I'll miss these very wonderful characters that she has created. While I am reading it, I have already ordered two of her other books. At least now it wont be too sad when I finish this one. She has a very strong voice and braids it through her characters beautifully, each with thier own register. Its fantastic. Do read it!

Beautiful Story
A journey not a book............filled with so many layers you have to savor it in bits. I thoroughly enjoyed this book as I always do with Ms. Naylor's work. This was a tale of love, redemption, voohoo/hoodoo, and so much more. Ophelia leaves Willow Springs to go off to New York. There she finds George....a man unlike any others she has ever met.....who shows her the real New York.....and reveals her to herself in the process. But when she has to bring him to Willow Springs...a mythical town with even more mythical people in it......to meet Mama Day and the rest of the Days, she will find out if he can truly love her after what is revealed there. Seeing IS believing........or is it?

Don’t pass these peas, rise above what you used to do.
A great book and although its fiction this story hit way too close to home. This book encourages transplants to a new space to explore beyond thier own famililar "block". It's worth mentioning that it includes various elements associated with death (infacide, widowdom) and weather peril. If you are familar with the aformentioned themes know that this style of writing highlights generational trauma assiciated with living in the Americas. There are nastalgic elements of Black Americana the superstitions within just might take you on a tailspin if you are umfamilar with African spirituality. Above I'm happy I was availible to purchase this title from a small seller.

Great story.
I loved the story once i finally got into it. It was slow to get into at first but i finally caught on. I also got confused when jumping from character to character because use I'd read several paragraphs before realizing what character was talking or thinking. Other than that, loved the characters , backgrounds and storylines.

I could hear the voices of the characters, soft, strong and vibrant. Highly enjoyed each page. The story with enough wonderment to be surprising and enough depth to be believable. I would have happily kept reading had the story continued.

I love Gloria Naylor's books from Women of Brewster Place, my introduction to her. Linden Hills was full of suspense, Mama Day was the love story. I cried so much, felt so much while reading all three books. I don't read nearly as much as I should but I love her writing, couldn't put the books down til the end.
