We have a couple battery operated digital thermometers but inevitably when you need them to work you discover the batteries are dead and of course they use special small button sized batteries ... who's got an extra set of those lying around the house. Hence the need for a great, old school ANALOG Thermometer. I bought this Taylor thermometer based mostly on price compared to similar thermometers however I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and size. Build quality of this thermometer is good, it feels solid, not cheap like some other meat thermometers. Next is the size. My wife wears reading glasses but the dial and numbers on this thermometer are larger than some and my wife can read the dial even without her glasses. Next comes to accuracy. Comparing this Taylor thermometer to one of our Digital Thermometers the temperatures were identical however the analog thermometer read the temperature quicker while the digital thermometer needed about 20 seconds before it returned a reading. Overall I'm very happy with this meat thermometer and would recommend it. Yes it's old school and not as high tech as the digital ones, but there's no batteries to replace or fail and it works great!

This thermometer worked perfectly the first time I used it - stuck in a thick meatloaf while it cooked in the oven. Other reviews mention the device reading wrong sitting on the counter or similar, but these are because buyers are confused by the needle, made worse by an incorrect answer to one of the questions - the long end of the needle is the correct end for reading the thermometer and points down to the right at room temperature. Since the scale starts at 120 degrees F, 70 degrees F is going to be way below that starting point. When someone states it reads about 140 degrees sitting on the counter, that's where the short end of the needle points, which is the wrong end of the needle. Many other reviewers were similarly confused by thinking the short end is the right end. I have another cheaper thermometer with a much wider range that I always felt was off by about 10 degrees F because it reads 60 degrees at room temperature. When both were placed in hot water, the cheap one read 135 degrees when this new one read 145 degrees. I would highly recommend this thermometer, but be sure to read the correct end of the needle!

Outstanding. Like the feature that you can stick it in and leave it in the oven with the meat, and still read it.

The thermometer works great and is very easy to read.

I ordered this item because it indicates it is "Dishwasher safe" several times throughout the page. I ordered it based on that feature alone. I receive it and it clearly indicates it is not "Dishwasher safe", Stating on the package, "Handwash only. Do not immerse in water or put in dishwasher". Thanks a lot for nothing.
