Did anyone else have their pillow arrive reeking of some chemical or gasoline? I am currently washing the cover but the stuffing smells just as bad.

My pillow arrived with that chemical odor. The instructions that came with the pillow suggested that the pillow would have that odor due to the packing, and let the pillow air out foe 2 to 3 days before using.

Can you buy different color covers for this?

I think other colors are available but I did not really look as I wanted gray

Does it need something for the back of pillow to rest against or can it be upright on bed without it against anything?

You wouldn’t have much support but yes, it could be upright on the bed. If you’re looking for support I’d put it against the headboard or a wall.
