I recently replaced my home server, which was an ancient desktop PC tower that had faithfully served as my file server for 10+ years, with a much smaller format NucBox G3 from GMKtec. I'm using external USB storage drives to host documents, photos, videos, and other files shared with my family. I had an extra 250GB SSD and an extra 2TB 2242 NVMe drive that I wanted to use as additional storage, so this unit was the perfect solution. I was a little concerned that it might not work for me, as the NucBox G3 does not have any USB-C ports, only (4) USB-A 3.2 ports. However, I plugged it in using the supplied USB-C to USB-A cable and and external power adapter and it recognized both drives immediately. While I may not have the same transfer speed as native USB-C, I'm happy with this compact set up.

I was concerned about the drive disconnecting based on other reviews, but the hub has been flawless with my M2 Mac Mini with a PNY 2TB drive mounted. I thought I might need to keep the drive constantly powered with a separate power supply, but that has not been the case. The Mac sleeps several times throughout the day and the drive is always there when I need it. Haven't used all the ports yet, but the times I have they performed as expected. And, it looks good.

I received this and connected it to the new M1 Mac Mini yesterday. This is a much cleaner look, it was immediately recognized and backups are quick. No noticeable heat, no interference with wi-fi and I get the additional front ports that I wanted. For all of these I'd give this five stars.However, I had been using an external SSD (Samsung 850 EVO) in a SIIG enclosure connected via USB 3 for Time Machine backups. The disk never ejected when the machine went to sleep. This one does every time, so it may have to be returned. The cable that came with this is USB C to USB C and that is how I initially connected it. The cable does however have a USB C to USB A adapter tethered to one end. This morning and after having to remount the backup disk many times, I changed the connecter and used the USB A adapter, so technically it's the same connection as the SIID enclosure used. We will see if that solves the issue. If not I'll have to return this. I could change the power saver settings on the Mac but my machines run 24/7 (an occasional restart) so I'd rather let it go to sleep when it can as opposed to it being active all the time.Update 2/21/21 - Using the USB C to USB A adapter that is tethered to the supplied cable (referenced above) allows the external drive to remain mounted during sleep. So I gave it another star and will keep the unit.

After reading some of the reviews I think people have the wrong idea of what this dock is for. This is a budget dock. It offers a lot of different ports and ability to add an Sata ssd. The speed of the ports won’t be the fastest and the Sata storage is not typing to blow you away.Personally I want really fast read and write speeds for a boot drive so I’m using a sabrent nvme ssd as seen on top. Not cheap but hey it works great. The ports are upside down which I find a little annoying but at this price point it delivers everything I need!

I use iMovie to edit my youtube podcast. It takes up tons of storage if I want to keep my original files around. My mini only has so much storage. After installing and moving my iMovie projects over to the Hard drive I feel like my mac maybe faster, more snappy, because I was running low on storage. Haven't had an issues. Thanks to the Chinese lady on youtbube that explained it clearly to me. Not all of China is the evil empire afterall. LOLI used a Sandisk SSD Plus 1T purchased in 2022

Nice setup if you need extra ports.Had issue with SSD drive files disappearing from the folder window. Briefly it would show files then would gradually disappear until it showed nothing in the window. I’m using a WD 1TB SATA SSD with APFS format. Running Ventura. Also tried connecting to my Mac laptop and issue would similarly occur. Haven’t figured out the reason yet.Contacted seller who promptly sent another. So far it’s working but remains to be seen.Otherwise usb ports are acting fine. Have yet to try the disk ports.4 stars for great service but minus 1 cause of the SSD issue.

Buen producto, cumple su funcion, el case para el HD es de mucha ayuda, yo lo compre para un MacMini m1 y va muy bien, le puse un ssd 1T para almacenamiento, lo que me gusto mas es que no se desconecta y la transferencia de datos es optima, lo recomiendo.

Ich habe die 2-Bay-Version und nach einem kurzen Test kann ich sagen, dass ich die 2 sehr negativen Rezensionen vom 27.11 und 5.12. in keiner Weise nachvollziehen kann. Haben die beiden etwa das gleiche Montagsmodell erwischt?Ich betreibe das Gerät mit einer externen Stromversorgung (habe hier ein 20W-USBC-Netzteil) so wie es in Youtube-Reviews empfohlen wird (vgl. auch Qwiizlab UH25 Pro), um jederzeit eine ausreichende Versorgung der SSDs und der Front-Ports zu gewährleisten. Aber auch ohne dieses externe/separate Netzteil (mit nur einem Kabel) ist die Hub-Funktion gegeben und testweise hat das so auch für eine kleine verbaute 2,5-Zoll-SSD noch gereicht (war aber kein Dauerbetrieb und nicht unter großer Last!).Mein Hub funktioniert übrigens auch ohne dass eine SSD eingebaut ist.Eine NVMe habe ich derzeit noch nicht eingebaut, das kommt noch. Wenn sich damit etwas zum negativen ändert, gibts hier ein Update.Ob dann die spärlichen Schlitze im Boden für eine ausreichende Kühlung ausreichen? Mal sehen...
