Does it have activated charcoal filters?

No. It has to blow out though a vent leading to the outside walls. Charcoal vents range hood dont generally blow out. I believe its for internal circulation.

Can it vent to the rear.

no it cannot vent to the rear directly out of the unit, only from the top of the unit, but i have a cabinet above it so hidden from sight i used a 90 degree elbow and vented out of my house because the wall it's installed on is an exterior wall.

Can you mount it on wall without cabinet

Thank you for your question. This unit was designed for mounting under the cabinet, but there are 4 keyholes on the back for rear mounting. This answer is valid for our current design as of 8/5/2019. Can I spray paint this hood to change the color? I know spray painting stainless steel can be difficult. Any suggestions to change color?
