Linux Pocket Guide: Essential Commands

The Linux pocket guide is an essential quick reference guide to Linux. It's a quick and simple way of working out the syntax to commands and deals with a lot of common Linux tasks. I was recommended this book by a Linux system admin who always carries a copy of the book for that moment when you need to get an answer quickly.

Did I really need a pocket guide, given that I have the Internet and 800-page books on Linux? Surely that covers everything? Yes, but I didn't have a pocket guide. I just had to have it because it was available. That said, I continue to find it useful. It's more up-to-date than my books, and it's sometimes faster than sifting through the forums. The author has packed a lot of useful info into this little book, which is very well organized and clearly written. To me, as someone who's still learning Linux, it was a worthwhile investment.

C'est bien écrit et bien présenté. Le seul reproche que l'on pourrait s'aventurer à faire concerne la description de quelques applications en ligne de commande devenues désuètes à mon sens.

Se cercate una lettura semplice e veloce che vi dia solo un assaggio di tutti i comandi presenti una classica UNIX shell (senza essere sommersi dai dettagli) questo è assolutamente il libro che fa per voi. Sono un utente Linux da più di 3 anni e grazie a questo libro ho appreso tantissimi nuovi comandi, e approfondito altri che conoscevo in maniera superficiale. Il libro mette da subito in chiaro che se cercate una spiegazione che vada fino al più piccolo dei dettagli di ogni comando, questo non è il libro che fa per voi (il comando man è ciò che cercate invece, tra l'altro spiegato anch'esso all'interno del libro). Questo libro vi mostrerà i comandi e gli switch che più probabilmente vi troverete ad utilizzare nell'amministrare una macchina UNIX. Ulteriore nota positiva, il libro presenta un ottimo reference alfabetico nelle pagine finali per poter velocemente saltare alla pagina del comando che ci interessa.
