How well is the bag constructed?

It seems sturdy . It is holding up well. I have now switched to a larger bag that would hold some other accessories as well. The backs of good quality.

Do the sheet clips keep their tension?

I have not seen any reduction in tension but I have only had the stand for about 6 months. I do generally have about a half inch stack of music on the stand and the clips still hold fine. I have had as much as an inch and a half book on the stand which is secure with the clips.

Are the hinged joints metal or plastic?

Everything is metal and there aren't any hinged joints. If you're referring to the 2 parts of the music holder, they go together by having knobs on the top part - fit through holes in the bottom part, then tighten by turning a (Ok... plastic) knob.

Some people say the stand is plastic, others metal. Which is it?

The stand and music holder are metal. The knobs that adjust height, etc. are plastic. We’ve had ours for a couple months and our cats have not yet knocked it over.
