The latching metal bar was to short for my old box, once I changed it out with the old one everything worked great.

Exactly as advertised. I used it to replace one on a $250 lock box.

A good example of bad design
Tiny back-side dials for setting the combination are plastic... markings are almost impossible to see on either side. There’s a reason the owners manual says use a piece of cardboard (which they supply) to turn the combo dials. If you use a small screwdriver they will strip out. Also the owners manual mentions if you don’t follow the mechanical programming sequence exactly the unit will become damaged. I can verify that is accurate as I skipped a step and it quit working... I had to buy a replacement.

Not enough body screws provided
Bought the faceplate version because I was unsure whether or not I had enough room to either surface mount, or flush mount. Turns out surface mount was needed. The instructions show that to surface mount there are 3 torx body screw points. The kit however only comes with 1 torx body screw to secure it to the flush-mount faceplate; I guess the assumption is that you are going to use the faceplate configuration 100% of the time. Wish that Kidde could have included 3 more body screws to improve the versatility of this kit.

Lock functions as described, would like additional feature to have simultaneously pressed buttons act as an additional combination value, this was not in the description. Lock has not yet been installed so this review is based on the part quality and function as a loose part not as a control for a cabinet.
