Will this work in a planted tank? Been having trouble with brown algae all over my plants thought i woukd give this a try

It's false to say that this product can only be used in saltwater. Seachem's website: "PhosGuard™ rapidly removes phosphate and silicate from marine and freshwater aquaria. Although PhosGuard™ is effective in both fresh and marine water, it will operate better in sea water and the need for it is better defined in sea water"

Are these small enough to require a mesh bag to contain them so they don't get loose/everywhere? If so does this bottle come with a bag?

Forget this stuff. Use Red Sea NOPOX twice a week. Keeps your Nitrates and Phosphates perfect if you use with a biopellet reactor. If you're not using a biopellet reactor just dose NOPOX 4 X a week. Go easy though this stuff works really well. Phosguard is good if you want to mesh bag it for two weeks and then remove to get the phosphates to fall quickly. Then maintain low phosphates with NOPOX or GFO in a GFO Reactor. NOPOX is way cheaper though, lasts longer and there is no cleaning involved.
