QX series mixers don't have rack ears!
I've been buying Behringer mixers and other gear for 20 years -- great gear for practice studios. Every other mixer was rack mountable and came with ears. Apparently, Behringer decided that rack mounting was no longer necessary and dropped that feature from it's QX line (at least from the larger ones). In short, I'm terribly disappointed and probably would have bought an X2222 instead if I'd known, although, with the X series, you get a decidedly crappier onboard effects unit (as in, it's ok for a bit of reverb in a monitor, but otherwise pretty much a crappy mono in, stereo'ish, reverb with a somewhat robotic sound).Besides the lack of rack mount ears or an aftermarket kit for same, the rest of the mixer is fine. It's cheap. It works. EQ is pretty good. The "one knob" compressors are fine in a pinch, but not super musical, as in, it will occasionally hold off the release a little longer than I want so vocals in a quiet part of a song start over-compressed if the previous part of the song was louder. But, for taming a DI bass or something like that, they're probably acceptable.Obviously, there are no direct outs from the individual channels. Also though, there is no main insert chain, which I thought wouldn't be so bad. I'm used to having one, but figured I could get by, but I was wrong. Your master EQ and compressor will be *after* the mixer, before the amp/speakers, so there is no way to monitor the actual house mix unless you run a daisy chain from your amp/speakers back to something from which you can monitor (probably a separate mixer so you don't risk a massive feedback loop). All aforementioned caveats aside, it is a decent sounding mixer. The preamps are nice and open sounding -- not muffled or underwater like a lot of cheaper mixers (and older Behringer mixers). And like I said, the effects unit is a big improvement. If you can live without all the extras, or have alternate solutions, this is a decent purchase....UNLESS you need to rack mount! In that case, put on your McGyver hat!
