Amazing little kit, easy to install, working on incl batteries for months
I purchased this for a guest room toilet to remove the need for anyone to touch it to flush. Im a bit OCD with hygiene and with keeping the nice ToTo chrome toilet handle spotless and free of fingerprints. The product arrived quickly and packaged nicely to ensure safe transport. Installation was simple and made even easier by the included QR code that directs you to watch a short youtube install video. I slowed the video down to the slowest speed in order to keep up. Installation took me less than 5 minutes, no exaggeration. As others have mentioned it would be more ideal if the flush length could be extended to 7+ second, ideally up to a maximum of 10 seconds would be ideal. This means that when this device flushes, it can hold the flush valve open for a maximum of 7 seconds. There is a very small phillips screw that sets the length of time to keep the valve open. On my unit, the adjustment screw was covered in glue, a flick with a metal nail file was all that was needed to remove the glue but it should not have been covered. I had to locate a small enough phillips (ideally an electronics repair kit or eyeglass repair kit) that would fit in the tiny adjustment screw. It would be courteous for the manufacturer to have provided one but some people may not need to adjust the flush length at all. Default flush hold is 4-5 seconds long. I increased my unit to the maximum of 7 seconds which is sufficient to flush the toilet properly but ideally 9 seconds would have been better. From the description I was hoping that this unit could flush the toilet automatically when a guest moved away from the toilet or within some time set intervals, just to insure that the toilet is flushed on its own, with or without any usage. This unit does not do that. This unit solely provides a non-touch flush by motion sensor, you must wave your hand over the top of the toilet lid to activate the flush. The product comes with a chrome hand-wave sticker that you can place on top of your toilet to inform guests that they can just wave their hand over the toilet to flush it. The pickup sensitivity on the motion sensor has an adjustment screw, identical to the adjustment screw for the flush length, and is located right next to the flush length adjustment. I did not need to adjust the flush motion sensitivity. I have been using the unit for several months now and it has worked 100% of the time, still operating on the included 4 batteries. The unit makes no noise when activating a flush, if it does make a noise it is inaudible due to the flushing of the toilet. I would definitely recommend this to others.

Reliable, efficient, they do the job that Kohler's cheap hardware should have done.
Update: January 2025 I rarely review products, and almost never return to update the reviews. This product is worth an update. In case you're stuck with the never-did-work Kohler touch flush toilets, this thing will fix your problems. I have two of these Kohler toilets. One worked pretty well, burning through batteries ever 3 to 4 months. The other went south pretty early, requiring four new AA batteries EVERY WEEK to 10 days. The "working" toilet start failing, which is when I decided to take the leap of faith (based in variable reviews), and buy these replacements. After six months, they work well. There is an optional sensitivity adjustment, which consists of two screws embedded into the circuit board, which are quite difficult to access and turn with a Phillips screwdriver. To flush one of two units , one almost had to put his hand right over the unit, a half inch above. The other worked better. I adjusted both, made them too sensitive, and now they flush as soon as you're in front of it, when you sit on the seat, when you scratch your nose, i.e. you get the picture. No big deal. I decided to wait until the batteries died, and then fix then both. Well, there's a problem with that plan. It's been seven months, and the batteries are still going strong. Because of my errant settings, these things probably flush 3x more than necessary. And yet, the batteries show no sign of failing yet. THAT'S AN OUTSTANDING IMPROVEMENT over Kohler's sh**t. I'm not sure how reliable these units will be over the long haul (per other reviews), but right now, they just work, they work well, and they work efficiently enough that the batteries seem to last forever. Increased review to 5 stars. Original Review (7/24): Bought this over a year ago, but didn't get it installed until early this year. Thus far, operates great. It's overly sensitive, i.e. it flushes when you sit down, when anything is within 2 feet over the top of the tank, but that can (should) be adjusted, I just haven't gotten around to trying. My concern: MOST of the recent reviews are highly NEGATIVE, and all cite the same thing, i.e. a non-responsive vendor. Well, I have a second Kohler touchless toilet, with their defective OEM crap auto flushers, which quit after 6 years (the other one lasted 6 months). There aren't many retrofit solutions out there (I think most Kohler owners are just dumping the toilet, and never buying Kohler again), so we'll give this a second try. I guarantee that I'll be updating this review every 3 to 6 months, to see how long this lasts. If this vendor/product deserve it, I'll write about it and update the rating to match.

Need screwdriver for battery compartment, and jeweler's screwdriver to adjust sensitivity
1) You need a small Phillips-head screwdriver to open the battery compartment. 2) You need a tiny jeweler's screwdriver to adjust the sensitivity. One reason I say "need" is that the factory setting was insanely oversensitive. We needed to adjust ours and I think you will too, so have the screwdriver ready before you start installation. It's a "trimpot" on the circuit board; an eyeglass screwdriver, or, with care, the point of a penknife would work. The instruction boolket is clear but don't mention that the setting is factory-sealed. It's covered with a waxy material, but it is easy to scrape off. The control is clearly labeled on the circuit board itself, with arrows showing increase/decrease directions. 3) The Techo is a different design, but has such a similar "style" that I have to wonder if they were OEM-ing the Kohler device all along. As a "replacement for the Kohler original" it seems fine and I know of no reason to suspect the Techo is any better or worse than the Kohler original. The home we bought had a toilet with the Kohler "touchless" mechanism installed. It quit working (just dropped dead, fresh batteries did nothing) and that's the last straw. There's a new toilet in our future. We bought the Techo as a stopgap so we can replace the toilet in good time on our own schedule. Since we hated the Kohler we hate the Techo, too--the whole thing seems silly--but it seems like an honest replacement. 4) Since Kohler's website offers a Kohler-branded replacment for $300 for a replacement, I guess I have to call this good value for the money. 5) Unlike the Kohler original, this one doesn't beep when you activate it. 6) As a replacement for the original, it was fine, mounting in the same place. I was able to just put the Techo in and clip the existing chain onto the wheel. I didn't install the new chain and I didn't make adjustments to the old chain. The operating wheel is slightly larger so it drops the chain lower and pulls it higher, but it has been working fine without any tinkering or adjusting. 7) As you can see, the battery compartment is outside the main mechanism. The trickiest part was plugging in the cable--because the rubber housing had turned oval in a weird way and I couldn't figure out how to mate plug and socket until my wife had the courage to use a bit more force than I had done. The housing is stretchy and obviously designed to make a water-resistant seal over the connection. 8) The "troubleshooting" section mentions the possibility that the wall clearance is too tight for the bracket, which may need to be bent. Yes, it was too tight and we did to bend it--not very easy to do. 9) Replacing batteries is going to be a nuisance. The case is sealed with a Phillips-head screw, and has a rubber seal between lid and main compartment and a tiny (and easily lost) rubber washer under the screw. I plan to keep a Phillips screwdriver, a jeweler's screwdriver, and four AA batteries in the bathroom. 10) The unit comes with four AA batteries. They are oddly unmarked. I think they are just ordinary alkaline batteries. They are not rechargeable. The instruction say "do not use lithium-ion batteries" out of fear of a lithium fire if the lithium gets wet, which is a shame since this would otherwise be a good place to use long-life disposable lithium batteries.

Installed easily and works well.
I’ve regretted my touchless flush toilet since I had it installed in 2013. Within the first year the flush kit had to be replaced by the manufacturer (not Techno). I have had nothing but problems year after year. I finally decided (now 2025) I had to do something so I didn’t need to route my guests to another bathroom for the times when the flusher wasn’t working. I found the original Kohler part had been discontinued. I was able to find sellers who had it but for as much as $300. I read all the Amazon reviews for this Techno brand and was surprised that some reviewers found it worked better than the original so I bought it. I’m a 69 year old woman and know nothing about toilets except to call a plumber, until now. It comes with instructions but the manufacturer had an installation video on YouTube. Following that, I installed it myself and now I could do it with my eyes closed. No plumber necesssary! A big money savings. And I have to agree, so far it does work better than the original brand part.

Great WHEN It Works. Both Failed After 7 Months.
5/31/2019: One week after my previous update, I tried yet again to contact the company at the email address they gave in their February comment, below. Three weeks later, they have not responded (again). Despite giving the appearance that they care about customer service with their comments to all of the negative reviews, they don't care. At all. It is apparently just a ruse. Or they could just be waiting to respond until after my warranty period is over in 2 months. Don't expect customer support from this company. 4/30/2019: I emailed the tech support team at the address that was given in the comment (below) from Techo within one day of their comment. That was 2 and a half months ago and they never responded to my email. So, it is apparent that they only make "defensive" comments on Amazon to make it look like they "care" but they apparently do not stand behind their product at all. Do not waste your money. If I could, I would give these ZERO stars. I bought a competitor's product which is working better than the Techo (Jones Stephens CleanWave Sensor). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WHEN this thing works, it is great. I love waving my hand and not touching the flush handle. However, this device is plagued with problems. Some can be overcome with maintenance. But both of mine completely died after barely 7 months. Here are the problems: 1) Sensitivity, even when dialed all of the way up is still too weak to work well though heavy ceramic lids. You still have to almost touch the lid to get it to work which mostly defeats the germ-free purpose. 2) Water accumulates on top of the sensor because of condensation inside the closed tank. This further reduces the limited range sensitivity. This can be temporarily remedied by lifting the lid and wiping water off of the top of the sensor unit every week or so. 3) Even with the top of the battery holder screwed all of the way down to compress the O-ring, there was still some leakage of condensation inside which caused battery compartment corrosion (this is NOT why the unit failed. The sensors are completely dead. Probably because of some limited condensation inside of the actuator unit). 4) Batteries don't last (for me anyway) longer than about 3 months on either unit. 5) The price is now $30. more (each) than it was when I bought 2 of them. I really wanted these to work, and they did to some degree with the nagging problems I listed. But a failure rate of two units in two separate bathrooms with different toilets in 7 months is not acceptable. I will keep looking for other solutions. Meanwhile, I will be flushing the old fashioned, germy way.

Better than the original Kohler Unit but stoll only lasted a year.
This Touchless Unit is great. So much better than the original Kohler unit that came with my toilet. I've had this unit for several months and the battery life is superb. I've yet to replace/recharge the batteries. I had to replace my Kohler Touchless Unit about 3-4 times. The Kohker Unit lasted about 4-6 months before they would stop working completely. And not only that but I had to replace/recharge the batteries about every 2-3 weeks. I will never buy another Kohler product again. But I'm glad the Techo unit has allowed me to continue to use my Touchless toilet. Shame on Kohler. But absolutely GREAT Job Techo! UPDATE: As of November 2023 this product is having issues. it keeps running the batteries down everytime I put a new set in. which means this product only lasted me a year, What a shame. MOST RECENT UPDATE: As of 11/25/2023, the great customer service department at Techo has helped me fix the issue with my product. It turns out that the sensor cover had went bad. So the kind people at Techo sent me out a new one and now it's working flawlessly once again. So now after this experience I will say that not only is the Techo Touchless Toilet Flush Kit a great product but the overall customer service is top notch as well. I was in constant email contact with Techo and they sent me out the necessary products to fix the issue at no charge to me. And they responded in a reasonable amount of time to any questions I had. It today's day and age good customer service is not easy to find but it definitely goes a long way. I would definitely recommend this product.

Deserves A 10 UPDATE REVIEW 2-16-2023
UPDATED REVIEW: This unit still has the same batteries it came with and has Never Failed to work. I love it! 2011, November, my wife and I finished a total refurbishing of our home. This renovation included a Kohler Hands-free toilet flush assembly. From Day One, that unit phantom-flushed randomly day after day...so much so that my water bill increased. Fast forward to 2022 after 6 (SIX) replacement units - all free and with excellent customer service i might add - and not one unit ever performed to anything near expected. Kohler even sent me a new-updated-design unit which "NEVER" worked and they sent me another such new-design unit that also did not work. Was it me... could I not install a simply auto-flush device - absolutely not. I'm not overstating this situation so please read on. To be clear, I learned the Kohler unit (the old design) would work better (sort of) when/if there were brand new batteries installed but it literally ate batteries. Sooo, I bought a Panasonic charger and 12 rechargeable batteries so enable me to replace the batteries every 2.5 weeks (two-point-five) due to unknown fast battery drain. Finally, two months ago (10-01-2022) the unit quit working altogether. I even installed an older unit (I kept all) but nothing worked. Fast forward and I ran across this Techo Touchless Flush Kit and decided to try it. Quite honestly, I knew Amazon would replace the unit if it didn't work so prepared myself for yet another round of Touchless Flush disappointments. To my super delight, this unit worked first time. In fact it worked too well so I had to adjust its sensitivity (not an option with Kohler) 1/4 turn lower to tune it to my toilet. I can't begin to tell you how very happy - delighted - relieved - excited I am to have purchased this unit and my wife is even happier as that small guest bathroom is her private area. I cannot understand why Kohler (huge company with a great reputation) was never able to supply me with a unit that worked. It's certainly possible they may have one now but I simply didn't have the courage to make that call (again) and risk another round of failures. Hat's off to "TECHO" for designing a unit that not only works but has two adjustment screws built in easily accessible to fine-tune its operation. I highly recommend this product!

A great replacement for Kohler K-1954 unit, but lifespan of batteries is decreasing over time
I purchased this unit in the Fall of 2022 after the original Kohler unit failed. It is nearly a direct replacement for Kohler's much more expensive K-1954 touchless toilet flush kit, and with minor modifications to the battery holder, it fits well. It works exactly like to former Kohler unit, and has not exhibited any phantom flushes. It has has worked quite well, but now after about 18 months, it's beginning to use up batteries much faster. I use rechargeable batteries, and am now needing to charge them weekly with no change in frequency of flushing. If you purchase this unit, I recommend purchasing rechargeable batteries to go along with it. The two purchases combined are still less than half the price of the original Kohler product. Update 10/25/24: I’ve owned this now for nearly 2 years and it has worked perfectly, but noticed that battery life was shortening. Last week it stopped working completely. I was ready to buy another one, but then realized that the contacts inside of the battery case had developed a film that needed to be cleaned off. Once cleaned, the device began working perfectly again. Really happy with it, and I recommend cleaning the battery contacts every so often.
