Accurate, Compact, and Loaded with Features
The Leica DISTO D2 is hands down the best laser distance measure I’ve ever used. Whether you’re a professional or a serious DIYer, this device is a game-changer. The accuracy is impressive, consistently delivering precise measurements up to 330 feet. It’s a huge time-saver compared to traditional tape measures, especially for large or hard-to-reach areas. The Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity is a fantastic feature. It allows me to easily sync measurements with my smartphone or tablet using the DISTO Plan app. This makes documenting and sharing measurements a breeze, especially on complex projects where accuracy is crucial. Despite its advanced features, the DISTO D2 is incredibly user-friendly. The interface is intuitive, with a bright, easy-to-read display and straightforward controls. It’s also surprisingly compact and lightweight, making it easy to carry around in your pocket or tool belt. The build quality is excellent, with a rugged design that feels durable and well-made. Another bonus is the multiple measurement modes, including area, volume, and indirect height measurements using the Pythagorean theorem. These features make it versatile enough for various applications, from construction to interior design. The battery life is solid, and it automatically shuts off after a period of inactivity to save power. I’ve used it extensively and haven’t had to change the batteries yet. Overall, the Leica DISTO D2 is worth every penny. It’s accurate, reliable, and packed with features that make measuring tasks quicker and easier. Highly recommend it to anyone who needs a top-quality laser distance measure!

So simple, I love Sketch Plan
This is a great device and so easy to use. With their iPhone app, I can use the Sketch Plan feature to roughly draw a room with my finger, take measurements which pop onto the app, and add those measurements to each line I drew. The app automatically resizes the roughly drawn lines to the exact measurements I dragged onto the sketch. You can then add windows, doors, etc. and save or share the dimensioned drawing. It will tell you square feet of the room for flooring, or volume of the room if you add wall height. This is a free feature (there are 2 other free features and 2 more you can choose to subscribe to). Of course, you can just take individual measurements without the app really easily too. I previously loved the Leica brand and this device confirmed my opinion.

Quick measurement of interior heights; useful for stairs and windows
I purchased this laser measure (Leica DISTO D2) for residential and commercial work, primarily to measure ceiling heights and determine if I need to use ladders for window cleaning. I also use it to quickly measure distances during pressure washing runs. In my experience, it works very well for my needs (heights of 2–3 stories maximum). The measurements have been consistent and allow me to quickly decide on the logistics of the job. So far, it's working very well and is serving its purpose for my window cleaning services.

Great tool to own.
Great tool for anyone in the flooring industry. Pricey, but that is to be expected with a quality product like Leica.

DISTO integration, not what I thought, also, what a pain to press.
Full disclosure, I have two others, a BOSH Professional GLM 30 & a Kobalt LDM-35. Leica made a good device, that's not in question, but out of all of them the BOSH is my favorite to use even though it doesn't have the Leica's range, hence the 4-star rating. I bought this specifically to use for the DISTO (bluetooth) integration with Xactimate's Mobile App for Insurance Adjusting. While it worked in the way it was advertised, I felt the entire process was one step forward and two steps backward in relation to sketching on a sheet of paper and then recreating it in the software. Despite my many poor experiences with Xactimate's integration, I still had high hopes for Leica's own App software but that was a let down too. Like other reviewers had mentioned, without the scaling feature, the App is absolutely lacking for professional use. The D2 is made to handle a lot of abuse, no question about it. It's very well constructed. I'm a big fan of the battery compartment access method, the pull out arm/shelf that creates a right angle for squaring edges of walls, etc. is awesome - I wish more companies had that feature. The short amount of time for holding down the 'CLEAR OFF' button is the best out of all of the devices for turning the device off and it has the best viewing angles out of all of my other laser pointers. I also really appreciate how by default the backlight remains active even though it's unclear how this will affect the overall battery usage, but here's where it's lacking for me and it's simple, it's not comfortable to use. I can picture this device being used in extremely cold weather and someone with big gloves on using it without issue; You're not accidentally going to trigger this device, everything requires intent. The buttons are stiff, too stiff for what I prefer when using it one handed which is 90% of the way I use a meter in the field, with the index finger triggering the laser calculation and the other fingers stabilizing the device on the wall. You may think I'm complaining, but when you're measuring 30+ walls per house and you're doing multiple houses per day 7 days a week, it makes a big difference. To use an Analogy, the Leica D2 is like a tank. It's going to take a lot to destroy it, it's extremely well built. It's designed to get a job done and it will do that. But like a tank, it's not a smooth ride. This device is not comfortable to hold one-handed, especially in relation to the BOSH. Leica had made their buttons extremely low profile too in relation to other manufacturers and while I believe I can understand this methodology, for my use it makes this device more of a pain to use because it requires that much more effort to trigger the button. When using the device one-handed, the index finger is already in a compromised position where the finger is weaker than normal. I get Leica is Swiss made, BOSH is Malaysia, and Kobalt is Chinese, but in testing, the BOSH was just as accurate as the Leica every single time. I think I'll keep the Leica given its distance is the largest out of all of the other devices as it's always good to have extra ones in the field as a backup. I can especially see a use for commercial properties given its range. It's my hope that they improve the Bluetooth functionality on all Apps, but the BOSH Professional GLM 30 is still going to be my go-to pointer when measuring distances 100' and less. That baby is easy on the finger when doing lots of measuring.

Used for Every Cabinetry Job
I build and install custom cabinetry. This is a very useful piece of kit for me. I can quickly line sketch a room in the Distro app, snap measurements with the D2 and attach them to lines, and head back to put them in CAD with great confidence. My fits at install are always on point. Easy to add windows, doors, and wall openings. Photos to show a sample kitchen measure-up with a door, two windows, and a vent opening for a range exhaust. My shop is all metric, so I dont have the same issue the trim guys who work in imperial have with this device. I recommend metric regardless, much less prone to calculation and conversion errors. The flip-tab on the bottom for measuring from an outside corner is ingenious. I use it constantly and can't imagine not having it. Every LMD should have it. My only complaint is the force required to press the button to get a measurement. It's very stiff and doesn't soften over time, and can be tedious in tight quarters doing a one-handed measurement. Not enough of an issue to make me want a different measurer. In all other ways I love this thing.

Very good tool, I recommend it
Every professional that works with measuring distances or areas should have one of these. It makes life much easier 👍🏻 it uses two AAA batteries I showed in the picture.
