Good for what I needed
Worked perfect to set up my old visible phone as a backup, set up in minutes. Service seems fine where I am, suburb area. Not sure how it works in the rural area. Month of basic service is cheap . Pay as you go. I do wish it came with the tool to open the sim but otherwise great.

Plug & play type of experience, ease of activation online and good plans available
Worked right away, you just need to go online and pick a plan, very simple and works pretty well both the internet and calls/messages. Good option when you have family visiting from abroad.

Tello is awesome!
Wonderful service, easy setup. I use a Pixel 8A with Google Fi but I wanted a local burner type number for my travels. Amazon had this thing to me in a day, I popped out the micro SIM from the card, placed it in the tray, turned my phone back on and then I had two services, Google Fi and Tello. Note, on my phone with texting, Tello is SIM number one, Google is SIM number 2. Pay attention to that. I did not have a service plan but rather I just paid $20 for pay-as-you-go. Save 800 as Tello in contacts, so when you want to know your balance you just text the word BALANCE to Tello, and it will give you what you are looking for. You can use the Tello app, but I just use my regular phone dialer and have a choice whenever I want to make a call or text. Data still comes from Google Fi. As of this writing, texts are one Cent a piece, and domestic calls are one Cent a minute for pay as you go. I think that's reasonable, especially considering privacy. One minor point, for the two weeks I've used this number I've had two spam calls already. But I just block them. Only one person had my number. If you're not going to use Tello for a while, just deactivate it in settings, pull down your menu, hit the little gear, and then in the search block for settings, type SIMs. This is for Android only- I know nothing about Apple. The bottom line this is a convenient way to add a second line to your cellular telephone. The only upgrade you could possibly do is have this service as an eSim but I don't know if that would conflict with the primary eSIM so this physical alternative is adequate.

Not a scam (I don't think so anyway), just super low quality
All these reviews are hilarious. 5-stars: like someone said, "what's up with all the 5-star reviews?" I agree. .. .. 2-star and 1-star: I these people don't know how cell phones and cell networks work. Here's my experience. I'm very pro-privacy so I know a thing or two about how the phones work, how the operating systems work, and how the networks work. I have 4 Tello cards. Long story short, I was only able to activate the first card (as a test). My intentions for this service is to have cellular backup, using cellular routers instead of cellular phones for when we have ISP outages, which we have experienced more frequently in the last couple years: slow is better than none. I had no issues with the first card. The card costed me $2 to my door, then a $10 plan for 2GB and a phone number, for testing. One of my kids is currently using it as a backup phone, so it is currently working. About the phone, it is an eBay special Motorola G7, blah blah blah, unlocked, I flashed LineageOS 21 on it. It's working fine. The next card I tried activating without a phone number, 2GB data-only. This card showed "Pending" for 24 hours, then dropped off my history. Keep in mind, there is no phone involved at this point. The third card, same issue. I even set up a new account to activate, since Amazon will only sell you one card (per purchase), so I thought maybe Tello only allows one card per household. Long story short, I was only able to activate the original card. The other cards are destined for the rubbish bin. Just some education for those who aren't aware, your old AT&T phone, for example, won't work with Tello unless you unlock it first. They are "carrier-locked", to bind you to the service until the end of your contract. Your old T-Mobile phone will probably work, since Tello works over the T-Mobile network, I've never used T-Mobile so I couldn't say 100%. As far as frequencies, I bought a Xiaomi phone about a year ago, hoping to use a really nice phone, but apparently, the frequencies they use don't match US carriers, so some phones like the Xiaomi phones, none of them will work at all, due to the radios. Yes, check to make sure your phone uses US frequencies. If your bought them in the US, they will probably work. I have a Brax Mototola G7 phone and they reset the IMEI, so as far as I know, all the carriers say the "IMEI is invalid", otherwise, your IMEI should be fine is you haven't messed with it. MOST people are not savvy enough to mess with the IMEI, so "invalid IMEI" is pretty rare. As far as customer service, the activation shows "Pending" for about 24 hours, then drops off my history. The last card I tired said "Pending", then "Refunded". You have to option to call them or email them. When I reached out to them via email, they asked to verify my identity. At face value, this seems reasonable, but having not been able to activate 3 out of 4 cards, already having my name, phone number, address from my first card, what more personal information do they want? Let alone, "they don't know me", what more information can they use to "verify me"? Personal data harvesting much? Back to the "Refunded" comment: their website says you don't get charged until you are successfully activated. The last card I tried was never activated, why would I get a refund, unless they charged me before a successful activation? In conclusion, if you are lucky enough to get one of these cards activated, it is fine as long as you're not doing anything demanding with it. I don't use SMS for privacy-reasons either, so I would only order data-only for these services. Perhaps they don't want to sell you "data-only plans". I'm off to find another service and throw all these cards away.

Good for the basics, but coverage has its moments
I activated it the same day it arrived and, as for that, no problem: the process was easy and the SIM fits any phone with the 3-in-1 format. In minutes it was already working. Now, the coverage... there depends a lot on where you are. In most of my area it works well, it navigates quickly and calls come in without cuts. But in some places - right where I usually pass sometimes - the speed goes down or the signal gets a little unstable. It's not something that happens all the time, but it shows when it happens. Cheap plans are a plus point, because they are really simple and without mess. If you want it for general use, messages, some apps and calls, it's fine. You just have to be clear that the coverage is not perfect everywhere. In general, a practical and economical option, but with those small ups and downs that one ends up learning to recognize according to the area

sim card works like it should.after you chose your plan they asign you a number and then you have the option to port your number. what's great is you get multiple tries when porting your number and if you enter the wrong info..other companies you will have to call or chat with customer support. just hope that everything works good with these mvno companies because customer service can be a pain. had 3 lines with lyca for 8 years.one of the lines needed to upgrade to esim because the phone dont support regular sim. lyca customer service is a joke and pisses me off so i ported all of them out to redpocket. why lyca is a joke? when you call them and ask for your account number and pin to port out. they will ask you for full name address email and two numbers that you recently called. get any of those wrong and you will have to hang up and call again.they will not give you a second chance or tell you which one you got wrong. if you call during peak hours it can take up to 30 minutes for someone to pick up. my line had really bad luck with Redpocket. redpocket sim DOA. customer support tries to help. telling me to reset this and that wasting my time. i tried the sim with different phones which already proved that the sim is dead. all they say is you can buy a sim at their site. bought a sim from them waited 6 days , tracking says delivered but nothing in the mail box or door steps.customer service tell me to wait another day because tracking can be buggy.somtimes it will show up next day.waited 2 more days and nothing so i ordered a tello sim and it got delivered next day . took about 10 minutes to setup everything and ported my number. redpocket had number porting restriction on by default so have to go set it off before porting...wasted 9 days wit redpocket .their customer service should have offer e a free sim in the first place since i already paid the monthly plan and ported my number over. if everything is good then i will be porting the other 2 lines over to tello next month

Very Happy Recent Tello family!! Data plans are amazing!
This tello $3 purchase has been a game changer for my family. My wife, 18 year old child, and I had previously been customers of another pay as you cell service. Honestly the service was great but with our family of 6 we didn't always have the resources to pay for a year at a time to get the benefit of the cheaper price. Enter tello! We can pay by the month. I started first and have since purchased two more cards for my wife and 18 year old child. We are more than pleased. They use the same towers as our last plan, T-Mobile, so we notice no difference in service, and since we are pay as you go monthly, we can afford the $45 unlimited internet for the summer (truthfully though there was a feature of 3 months of unlimited for $45, regularly $25). We needed the extra data because our littles burn it up on their tablets while we traveled and camped. Since it is pay as you go, we can tone down the data and save tons of money using one phone's hotspot as we will soon get back into our back to school vibe. And...they have visual voicemail! We love it! My wife and I use Android, and our 18 year old iOS, and there is no problems at all to report and we have been happy customers all summer. Don't cancel your service but try it out for a month and see what you think? It's only $3 for the SIM, what have you got to lose but ties to Big Data!!
