Pedro de Salcedo could not have known what adventures lay ahead! His incredible voyage as ship's boy aboard Christopher Columbus' Santa Maria would bring both danger and excitement. Pedro captured his experience between the pages of a journal. If he did not return alive perhaps someone, someday would find it and learn of his incredible journey to the New World. Review: Excellent book - I really enjoyed this book and so did my 10 year old. We read it to go along with our homeschool and loved how it was from the perspective of a ships boy. It was a very easy read but interesting and insightful. Loved that it was also historically accurate. Highly recommend Review: My son loved it - Easy read, my son read it in two days after school. It was on his reading list. He enjoyed it

Helped us understand how different things were back then
I used this book with my 10 yr old homeschooler. It really helped her to understand how different things were back then. It's hard to imagine things different with all the technology we have today. It was an easy read and enjoyable for both us. We read it over Columbus Day and had a search for "land" right afterwards.

Great living book on the subject of Columbus
Homeschooling Mom here, we read this book as part of our exploration age unit and we found it to be engaging. It had some ship related lingo which we always get lost in lol but overall I am glad to have added this to our read aloud collection. It was appropriate reading level for my two 4th graders.

Great book to read aloud.
I used this in a second class as a read aloud about Christopher Columbus. It was well written and held their attention. It aloud for good discussion about slavery and other matters.

A high interest text for use with an Explorers unit
I used this as a read aloud during our Social Studies unit on the Explorers. While not completely historically accurate, it was a great incentive for getting through some of the more boring and less interesting textbook readings. It seems we never get too old for a good read aloud!
