Agents of SMERSH is a cooperative Storytelling game that pits players as UN Secret Service Spies set in an alternate 1970s timeline against a newly formed and independent SMERSH. The game will be able to accommodate play with either The Encounter Book that contains over 1500 written encounters with a similar reaction matrix to Tales of the Arabian Nights - or played more simply with only encounter cards with shorter encounters and no matrix. Agents of SMERSH includes custom dice to determine success or failure of encounters, and more strategic play from what is typically expected of a Storytelling board game. There are plenty of James Bond gadgets, guns, cars, pop references and detailed artwork - not to mention a touch of humor. The game features the artwork of George Patsouras (The Resistance & Flash Point).

A great cooperative game which will appeal to folks who enjoy Pandemic, Eldrich Horror, Arabian Nights, etc.
My game group regularly plays storytelling games like Arabian Nights and Eldrich Horror. We recently played Agents of Smersh and all of us agreed that this is our new favorite! The huge book of encounters included is full of great scenes of mischief and mayhem, written with a keen sense of humor. The game comes with custom dice, which add alot of suspense and the added push-your-luck element of choosing how many dice you feel are needed to roll a success. The intelligence that you and your team are trying to collect appears and disappears constantly, making advance planning a challenge. The henchmen get harder to defeat and airports are closing as the game progresses, adding to the sense of urgency. What a blast and lots of laughs! I highly recommend this game to game novices and veterans alike. If you like Pandemic-like cooperative games, you will like this one too.

Tales of Arabian Nights is SOOOO much better.
I feel like the game is quite broken with its current rule set. Winning the game seems nearly impossible. You're only able to get rid of status cards by spending one of you two completed personal missions for the game. You only get two of those, but you get horrible conditions all the time. Plus, it makes no thematic sense at all. I returned it.

but the game has a pretty amusing flow when you read along the little story
Played it for a board game night with another couple. The setup is a bit complex, but the game has a pretty amusing flow when you read along the little story.

Fun Game, although fairly difficult. Evil is really on their game.

Good game
I wanted a game that was similar too Arabian Nights and was told that SMERSH was the only option. I was pleasantly surprised! It's a great cooperative, storytelling boardgame.

Having lost all four games that's been played since purchasing I can still say this is great fun ,win or lose.Rules are not overly difficult but YouTube helps get a greater understanding.Solo version is interesting if you let your imagination run wild the theme. My partner is not in to board games at all but after playing once she then suggested a weekly board game night. Not much strategy to be had but great fun trying to defeat Dr Lobo, and would recommend if you are in to this sort of game.
