Fantastic laptop that doesnt leave you hanging in the ports ...
Fantastic laptop that doesnt leave you hanging in the ports department, despite being extremely small and lightweight, the VAIO S doesnt shy away from providing the user the ports they need, i.e. a full sized LAN port. With 8GB of RAM and i7 processor the VAIO S is extremely fast and is designed to get the job done no matter the difficulty. I am a Marketing major and I am required to use certain programs and applications that require the hardware to be able to handle many tasks at once, and this computer never fails me in that regard. On top of the specs of the laptop, it is an extreme eye catcher when used in public, its elegant and slim design will definitely have people looking your way, this could also be due to the fact that most students at my university utilize MacBooks. Nevertheless, a fine piece of hardware. I have used one for the past 3 months and loved it so I went out an bought another for my wife.

Terrible product, $1500 lost - DO NOT BUY THIS
Terrible product, $1500 lost - DO NOT BUY THIS!!! It such a headache it does not want to connect to Wi-Fi and all browsers just spin, when older computers work fine. I regret this purchase and will never by a VAIO product again.

light & nimble laptop
::Updated review::Liked the first so much, bought a second. Unfortunately after a few months' use, the 2nd unit started to have issues turning on, now won't at all. Either battery or something in circuitry seems to be faulty, possibly PSU. Difficult to get fixed, and battery is essentially sealed within unit. Disappointed and probably won't repurchase this brand, even though it has so much going for it.::Original review::Not sure I've ever been this pleased with a new laptop--and my last 4 were (Sony) VAIOs. This VAIO's sleek minimalism and the clean Windows 10 interface are terrific. Screen has almost no glare and crisp readability. Unbelievably lightweight, easy to set up, fast, and quiet. Simple startup instructions include a recommendation to make a media recovery backup using a clean/new 2.0 USB flash drive with 16-32 GB capacity. Had to run out to buy one ($6 at BB), but otherwise a simple step. So far, essentially glitch-free, and Norton/Office/Chrome*/Windows all work well together. Setting up MS Office 2016 fairly straightforward, and MS tech support easily resolved the issues I had. (*I think MS Edge is faster, but not quite as user-friendly. :)Followup: have owned for about a month now--still no problems. Purchasing another to replace a second aging laptop.

Great laptop for professionals
This review is for the VAIO S model VJS131C11L which is the highest level of configuration available for the VIO S series. This laptop is durable, lightweight and performance focused. I researched and short listed the 3 laptops. Dell XPS 13, HP Spectre X360 and VAIO S.In the end, I decided to go with the VAIO. After a few weeks of use, I am overall satisfied with this laptop, though a few things can be improved.I will review this product in the below categories, giving each a rating out of a maximum of 5.Physical Design (3/5)Upon first look, it is a sleek and beautiful machine. Elegently slim, light weight and clean industrial design. With an overall a black color theme without any imposing stickers or logos, this gets my approval as I prefer to not have gold/silver accent colors. There are some bad aspects of the design, however. The awful hinge design is my biggest complaint. As you open the laptop, the lower edge of the hinge drags on the table surface as you adjust the angle of the screen and in turn introduce some awkward resistance while opening up the laptop.Additionally, when the laptop sits on your lap, the bottom edge of the hinge digs into your legs. Its not painful but it makes its presense known.Another aspect is the smudges that your fingers leave. While the marketing claim is that the surface of this laptop has some smudge resistant coating, it just does not work. The laptop is extremely light, at 2.3 lbs. and is a joy to carry around and use.Trackpad (4/5)The trackpad is responsive but too small. I really liked the trackpad on the HP model but that alone was not enough to sway me.For the future revisions of this VAIO model, the engineers might want to fill the entire height of the area below the keyboard and add additional area width wise.Performance (5/5)It is fast! My configuration has an i7 6500U along with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB PCIe Solid State drive. The laptop boots up quick and very snappy overall. The graphics performance is reasonable as well, using the Intel HD 520 chip.Battery (5/5)The marketing claim is around 9 hours. My usage resulted in about 7.5 hours which included browser, word processing and occasional media viewing. The screen brightness is most taxing on the battery so if you keep it to the lowest viewable setting, you will get the most out of the battery.Screen (5/5)With a FHD 1920x1080 resolution, At 13.3 inch the screen looks crisp and clear. It is reasonably bright as well. This model does not have the display capable of adhering to the sRGB color standards but to me that is not an issue.I mainly wanted a bright and sharp screen without crazy pixel count draining the battery and this is the sweet spot.Connectivity (5/5)This is where this laptop shines. It has 3 USB 3.0 ports, 1 HDMI out, 1 ethernet port, headphone/microphone port and n SDXC card slot for expanding your storage capacity.OS and Applications (5/5)Comes with Windows 10 Pro and no bloatware. No driver issues and works right out of the box.I would have given this laptop all five stars if it wasn't for the poor hinge design and a cheaply made track pad.Still, a great buy for the professionals.

Fast and Light Notebook with Excellent Build Quality
There are already some excellent reviews on here so I will just emphasize the positives and negatives that may not have been mentioned yet.Okay first off, this is the "cleanest" new notebook I have ever bought (including a 15 inch MBP retina I had). Literally zero bloatware. It is so refreshing to have a new computer that only loads the OS! Consequently, this thing starts up really fast and turning it on and getting started is a breeze. The build quality is excellent and I love the keyboard. I wish it had just a little more depth in the keystrokes but I think it is as good as it gets when a notebook is this thin and light. My only issues are a lack of bluetooth connectivity and that it is still made in china despite having been "inspected" in Japan. I knew that coming in, but I think it would be nice to know whole process took place in VAIO Japan. That being said, it clearly hasn't affected the quality of the product so it is just wishful thinking on my part.If you are looking for a very portable business laptop, this is it!
