Would it be preferable to also use the course compound along with this set? I'm just wondering what grit sandpaper I should stop with.

In general the higher you can go with the grit you use for the sanding medium, the better the result. There are polishing kits available (Detail Master sells one) that goes all the way to 12,000 grit. Combine that with a good polishing compound and a quality Carnauba wax, and should be capable of producing some spectacular results. As far as the Tamiya polishing compounds, they are meant to be used as a set. I've found that even the "course" grade isn't very aggressive, but does seem to produce better results overall than just leaving it to the "Fine" and "Finish" grades by themselves.

Will this work for acrylic surfaces?

Yes. I've used it on enamels, acrylics, AND lacquers

Does this product polish orange skin effect in the paint job?

I'm not sure, I've never tried it for that purpose. But it should do, it works for everything else

I got a splotchy haze after using these two products on tamiya x-23 clear blue over x-33 bronze. what did i do wrong?

Did you wet sand the model with fine grit sandpaper, 2,000, 3,000? Did you let the color coat dry thoroughly before using the clear coat? And without seeing the paint finish it is hard to explain the haziness.
