Do they already have the day 1 patch now that were a little later along here or will I have to update it myself?

Right out of the box I had to flash the "day 1 patch" firmware fix from the Hyperkin site. Then I had to go to youtube for RoXolid’s fix for the frame skip issue. After those two flashes, perfect GBA emulation. You can find full instructions for both flashes at RoXolid Productions on Youtube. I know, it is no way to launch a product. Irritating, but at the same time, I love this thing. I recommend it even though you have to fix it out of the box.

does this console save to the game cartridge or does it save to the consoles hard drive?

It saves to the consoles micro sd card. Be sure to update to the newest firmware before playing or you may have to stick with an older firmware to avoid loosing your saves.

Can you load games from memory card or is it for firmware and saves only?

Firmware updates, game saves and it also saves the actual game rom from the cartridge upon first boot up.

Does it play gba evercarts ?

It's in beta right now but has a memory card that can be updated I haven't done so yet but I believe u can all gba games if it is updated
