Beautiful
Just... lovely. I can't help but melt when listening to this."Hot Math" is a favorite when working out - perhaps its repetitiousness helps me forget how long I've been doing something, and I can lose myself in it.I'm also a fan of "Carrion Suite."Mr. Bird is quite talented. I highly recommend seeing him live sometime - he's amazing.

Fantastic!
Perfect record to put on when relaxing around the house. Great tone and soothing composition, I listen to it over and over again. Highly recommended for anyone.

It's not bad, but the more recent Hands of Glory is a better release
This has some very appealing musical ideas, and in Hands of Glory I can hear that they were building blocks towards this much better release. I'd recommend getting Hands of Glory and Break It Yourself if you haven't already. If you're yearning for more after that than go for Useless Creatures.

Great album
This album is great do not hesitate to get it. Yes this is a record/vinyl, I was on an iPhone when I ordered this and it does not say if it is a vinyl in mobile view.

Not the best of his albums
I bought this and one of Andrew Bird's other albums at the same time. Of the two I prefer the other. This on is not awful, but has a lot of jarring instrumentals and I wanted to hear his voice more. He is an excellent musician, do not let this album discourage you from purchasing his other, much much better albums. You might chose to avoid this one though, unless you enjoy disturbingly minor key instrumentals.

Great Companion & Standalone Album
Owners of the deluxe edition of Andrew Bird's Noble Beast are fortunate to already own this disc. It wonderfully compliments Noble Beast, which I found to be a more mellow yet no-less interesting album than his previous masterpiece, Armchair Apocrypha. Useless Creatures exudes a whimsy that I find very appealing and the all-instrumental nature gives it a certain gravity as well (if you consider whistling an instrument). While it stands on it's own as an album, I find it works better as a companion to Noble Beast. It just doesn't feel quite complete--more like a collection of really good B-sides. It may just be me, but I also think the sound quality/mixing is not quite as refined as on Noble Beast either. In summary, this is a wonderful offering from the eclectically talented Andrew Bird, but not the best place to start with his music. For that I suggest Armchair Apocrypha, Noble Beast, The Mysterious Production of Eggs and/or Weather Systems. If you are a fan of Andrew already and didn't get the deluxe edition of Noble Beast, then you'll want to pick up Useless Creatures.

The instrumental updated.
If you like Andrew Bird, instrumentals, rhythmic ensembles, than this may be a good addition to your musical collection.Being an Bird fan, I was not disappointed despite there being no lyrical or vocals on this album. It's fun, yet serious, the way only Bird could do it.Some of the songs make you want to dance!
