What the product description won't tell you...
What I was wondering before the purchase of my Step 2 sand and water table is "How much sand will I need?" I found a 25lb box of Sandtastik to be the perfect start. That's going to give me about two or three fills of the table, I don't fill it all the way up because it will just wind up on the ground that way. The sand that I've put in there has lasted over a month so far. The water siide fills with two gallons. What I knew before the package even arrived is that Step2 is a quality brand. It's sturdy and durable and we've always had good luck with their products. They really hold up to a lot of play and rough and tumble kids! With that expectation I have been completely satisfied with this purchase. It's sturdy and you can tell just by looking at the quality it will last many years. All the kids in the neighborhood play with it ages 2-13! It's a lot of fun and a great sensory activity for kids of all ages (even for moms!) I read problems people had with leaking and something about the plug being in or near the leg. That must have been an older model because there is no such problem with our table. No leaks! I also like the elastic cord that holds the cover on so nothing yucky gets in the table when it's not in use. The umbrella is nice but a little awkward in it's design the way it positions. You could secure it 100% but then not be able to take it off easily to put the cover on. So to be able to take it on and off, it slides sometimes or the kids pull it out. You don't want to leave it in the table unattended because it could literally blow away with a good wind. We don't use it often, our table isn't in a very sunny spot. Unfortunately younger kids see that as an opportunity to pour sand down the umbrella hole. Kids will be kids! I don't know exactly how they could improve on the design there but it's the only flaw I can see with the product. I'm going to fashion some sort of plug to solve the problem for us. Last but not least the assembly was a piece of cake. One person with an electric screwdriver/drill can get the job done. Yes you can use a manual screwdriver but it will take you forever and there are no pilot holes.

Biggest, best water table you can find!
LOVE THIS! We have had a basic, round water table from Step 2 for the last 5 years, it has been used practically daily from April-September in Seattle. My kids will play water table all day long with boats, Arctic animals, sea animals, Octonauts, water cans, water wheels, and more! When I bought the first water table, I had 2 boys - nearly 1 & nearly 2. They are now 4 1/2 & 5 1/2 and have a 20 month old sister. The round water table was getting a little crowded and thought we could use an upgrade. This is the tallest & largest one one the market and we love the umbrella and the cover. Still love and use the small round one, and would recommend it as well. This one is just a step up if you have more kids using it or when your kids get bigger or older and still like to play. We don't do the sand, they just like to do all water. I read all the reviews and compared everything out there before buying this, I appreciate all the feedback from other reviewers and couldn't be happier with this purchase, just wish I would have bought it last year! I am truly impressed with the Step 2 products! We have a swing set/climber, playhouse and play kitchen. All are excellent quality, durable and get lots of use at our house. Of note, this took my husband 10 minutes to put together, nothing leaks, the lid fits very snug, and the umbrella is great! Buy one, your kids will love it! You will be able to relax on the deck or patio while they play all afternoon!

Doesn't get better than this. Buy it.
Adorable. The big umbrella provides way more shade than I expected. There is a tiny leak around the leg holes but unless you plan to use it with water and indoors (in which case you're asking for a mess either way) then it doesn't effect play at all. The water doesn't leak out fast at all, so it's not like you have to refill it during play. A bead of silicone caulk would fix it but I really don't feel the need. We didn't screw the legs in because i want to be able to pop them out and store everything in the table if I feel like it, and it is more than sturdy without screws in the legs. Great deal, high quality and maybe most of all I liked that the colors aren't obnoxious in my backyard. Very natural and pleasant colors, not cheesy like so many outdoor toys. I think this will last for years to come, and I plan to use it as a sensory table indoors during the winter with rice, pasta, beans, etc. it's a perfect height for my 2 year old too. It entertains him in the shade while I sit in the sun next to him and get a short break-- isn't that the best kind of toy? I read Amazon reviews obsessively before I purchase anything (it's pathological I think) and I can assure you that this table won't disappoint. Buy it.

Great outdoor or indoor activity!
I have had this table just a few weeks and my 17-month-old daughter has spent hours with it! It seems to also be a great toy for a group of kids when they are of varying ages. At our play groups, the babies that can only stand and cruise love it just as much as the 3 and 4-year-olds who can do a little more with it. The size of this table is bigger than others I have seen, which allows for a couple of extra kids to play at it at a time. The height seems to be perfect for young kids, and I love the umbrella and the cover that were included. So far I am just using water, as my daughter will eat the sand. My only complaint is the two bridge pieces that come with it, which are meant for the water side, don't stay put. My daughter tries to "drive" the boats over the bridges but they just come right out. It isn't really a big deal, and an older child with more motor control probably wouldn't have a problem with this. It was a piece of cake to put this together with a small drill and seems very sturdy. We had a 4-year-old climb up on it during a party, and it didn't budge or wobble. I can't really say if this water table is better than other brands, because they basically all have the same idea and would likely all entertain my daughter just the same. I do like that there are two separate compartments, as I intend to bring the table inside in the winter to use as a sensory table with dried pasta/rice/beans, etc. All in all, I would purchase this again.

Sturdy little table
This table has been great fun for our three daughters! We mostly use it as a water table because at their ages (3 and two at 2) they would rather play with water than sand. The sand was fun for a while but when the younger ones started pouring too much water into big sister's sand projects it was anarchy. The only problem I have had is that SOMEhow water has leaked to the hollow inside of the table so that even after you drain the water you can hear it sloshing around when you move it - and it drips slowly from one end. Don't ask me how the water got in there. It was easy to assemble (use a drill and not a screwdriver) and the umbrella is great and it's height adjustable. I wish it were more difficult to adjust the height though because if you have innovative children they will soon figure out how to lower it - and then it comes crashing down on other childrens' heads! I would also like to find out how to get a replacement umbrella because after two summers at high elevation it is pretty brittle now and has torn in a few places. Overall our kids have really enjoyed this and it was worth it!

Almost perfect - fun for years to come
I had been watching the price for awhile and comparing with buying used. When the price dropped, I decided new was worth a little extra, plus it's shipped to my door! I have read the older reviews and was a little worried about leaking. We haven't had a problem in the two months we've had it. I don't know if they are new, but the set now comes with two rubber caps. You put them onto the legs before assembling and they create a nice seal with the table. (I still think it's odd the water and sand areas have holes in the first place.) If you don't use the legs, simply push the caps into the holes and it's ready to go! The whole thing sets up quickly and the umbrella is a generous size. Currently we only fill the table with water. Our 17-month-old isn't quite ready for sand. He loves splashing and pouring the water into various toys. My one request would be if Step2 could include toys like a car or other sand appropriate vehicle for the "roads" on the table. It's been difficult to find one that's the right width. It doesn't really make sense to push the boats around. The one thing we haven't used is the track on the table cover. Maybe we're just not at that age yet. I also don't particularly like it because the grooves trap water and you have to lift it up to drain it off. Overall I know this will get a ton of use. Anytime we're in the backyard, he will play in it. That's what makes this worth the money.

... before buying this sand and water table and I'm glad we did because this one is amazing
We did a lot of research before buying this sand and water table and I'm glad we did because this one is amazing. First of all it is very big so it has lots of play area. We had four kids from age one to five all playing with it at the same time and they all loved it. We put a 50 pound bag of sand across both sides and it is holding up no problem and honestly would probably still hold more. I put my two year old 23 pound child in it with the 50 pounds of sand and it still probably could of held more no problem. The cover works great we have it outside and nothing has got into it yet, rain, animals, etc. the umbrella covers the entire play area which is great for sun protection and it is adjustable, we have it set to the tallest setting and I have to bend down a little bit but if I sit in a chair I fit under it no problem so I can play with my child. Despite it being so big it is still very easy to move when empty with 50 pounds of sand it still moves kind of easy considering. The only down fall to this table is to cover it up you have to remove the umbrella which for us wasn't a big deal because we just leaned it against our porch railing and it stayed. This is hands down one of the best sand and water tables I have ever seen or used and I would recommend this to anyone.

A favorite with my two toddlers!
My kids love this toy! It stands about 1.5 feet tall, perfect for toddler aged children to play. The umbrella is a cute touch, too. I purchased this for my son's birthday party - I haven't put the sand and water in it yet - instead I've filled it up with dried corn kernals for a John Deere themed party. Pretty easy to put together, only takes about 10 minutes (with distractions!). My only complaint is the two small brown bridges... they fall down all the time because they don't "click" in like most younger kid toys do. It just sort of sits on the other pieces so if a kid pushes a car across the bridge and puts too much weight on one side then it will fall down. Not really a big deal - it just upsets my kids since they're small and think when it falls that it is broken forever. Great toy! I love the elastic bands on the side that keep the lid on tight. I'm hoping it's as waterproof as it looks ~ and in Washington, we'll definitely be able to test it out.

A very sturdy sand and water table with a well fitting lid. My grandson loves it and the addition of an umbrella will be great on sunny days.
