Excellent true crime book! One of my favorites!
I first read this book when it was published in 2011 and I found it a great read. It has all the elements of a great true crime story - a glib narcissist lying husband, a sweet wife, and a murder. The book was an easy read. There were a few pages that I did not enjoy reading but they were essential to telling the entire story (the part where the trial gets delayed by the defense). But overall, a great read and a sad story. The author also discusses other murders by ethylene glycol (Lynn Turner and Mark Jensen) which also added to the book's appeal. I just reread the book again for a second time and I enjoyed it a again. Cudos to Lara Bricker on a smooth interesting read.

A must read for the True Crime enthusiast!
Lara Bricker tells the tale of James Keown and his wife Julie. As the "onion is peeled" so to speak, we learn the truly horrific depths of James and his web of lies. It's amazing that everyone in his life could not see the man for whom he really was.Just goes to show you that true sociopaths are good at concealing their true selves. A MUST READ!

Quick read...devastating case
I am a huge fan of Lara Bricker and her podcasts. This is a great book about a devastating case. This is a quick read and Lara does a wonderful job of showing how one man’s action devastated many.

Chilling story of the lengths a liar went to in order to keep up a lifestyle and persona
I knew James Keown from the time he was in grade school until he first left Jefferson City. The author caught his personality exactly. I still have trouble with James doing the things he did, but I do not doubt them. I do not understand how so many people could not see through him, but he was that kind of person. You either believe everything he said or you doubted everything he said.Chilling read for those of us who knew him.

Wow
A sick murderer. I feel so bad for Julie and her family. The writer did an amazing job articulating the mind of a true narcissist.

Excellent book-- True Crime Fans take note
This is an excellent book which tells the true story about the events that happened to a young wife and nurse who was a caring person and beloved by many people. She did not deserve what happened to her. I remember when this story was in the news, since it happened not far from me. Well written story, and would recommend to anyone. True crime fans will like it a lot.

Powerful
A beautiful woman falls in love with a sociopath. She was never raised to believe humans like James existed. She married a man she never knew, she loved a stranger. This book is written well. RIP Julie as our world,is missing an angel but still caring for the devil.

It is a good read, although you have to wade through dozens ...
A true crime committed by a man who was not stopped in his early development from being deceptive and lying. It is a good read, although you have to wade through dozens of people who continued (or chose) to not recognize just how manipulative & evil he is. At times, I was frustrated by the lack of recognition of his devious capabilities and the many discrepancies in his claims to so many seemingly educated.

Stay away from people like this one.
A real page turner this book is. I can't believe all the things this woman did. She's a pro and lying. A must read.
