Can the 2.5" slot hold a 15mm thick HDD ? ? ?

There is a door on the enclosure for SSDs. It is the small door with the silver button and silver strip on it. Your SSD slides directly in there.

can this be used to install a DVD/ bluray player removed from a laptop?

It will depend on the size of the optical drive. First, you will have to remove the front cover from the driver or it will not fit in the bay. Most optical drives are wider than standard 3.5" drives and will not fit in the adapter bay. It probably will not work mechanically, even though it would work electronically. The 2 bays are 2.5 inches and 3.5 inches wide respectively so there is no way to fit a 5.25 inch optical drive into the bay. You can install the optical drive internally, I have done it myself.

Where can i also get the rack for 2.5" sata hdd/ ssd?

Dear Customer, It's built into this enclosure. You just slide your 2.5" HDD or SSD into the slot covered by the door on this enclosure.
