implement and enjoy retirement in it's various forms
As an advocate for financial literacy and a well-planned retirement I was very impressed with this book (received it hot off the press on 4/18/16). It is not a book on shilling must have stocks or "the one investment system" so often the premis of investment books. This book covers practically all of the areas one needs to plan, implement and enjoy retirement in it's various forms.I don't know the author and have no agenda with the book. I just felt compelled to write this as it contains a large amount of useful information and ideas. I read the three hundred pages in three days and will re-read it as a reference for the future. No pics, no glitzy graphs - just great information in a readable format.

Superb. Lots of information that I never thought about.
Superb. Lots of information that I never thought about. Retirement savings seems relatively simple compared to how I should spend the money in retirement, retiring at an early age of 57. That is, what types of accounts to tap and how to minimize taxes which can be a huge liability. Check out the last chapter also as it deals with more issues regarding retirement in general particularly for people who Have been more or less workaholics and defined by their career. Wishing everyone a great success.

Solid coverage of post-work finances
Carlson is a qualified author on the topic, and touches all of the right bases from understanding your income streams to devising a retirement budget, managing taxes, and planning an estate/legacy, and is largely current (as of 2014-15). I found it to read like a conversation with a retirement planner that provided sufficient depth to understand the post-work financial landscape, and provided solid direction to get one started on the right path to managing post-work assets. He frequently supplies all the options and then stops short of giving definitive advice in many areas; instead hedging with "one size doesn't fit all," which may turn some off even though it is honest for a non-individualized look at the topic. The book definitely focuses on the financial aspects of retiring and retirement, and purposely omits the droning babble about self-purpose and time management that pervades many other books on retirement. My only complaint might be that the book could have used a better editor; I was surprised by several grammatical errantcies that one wouldn't expect in a volume like this one.

Excellent Book
Having read many finance and retirement books, newsletters, and periodicals I highly recommend reading 'The New Rules of Retirement: Strategies for a Secure Future'. I consider it essential reading for anyone within 10-20 years of retirement or even those in retirement. I would even recommend reading this book before launching into all the internet and retail publications about retirement. It provides the common sense necessary to filter thru all the crap 'Opinions' that abound in the electronic medium.

Good!
Great little book! Chapters are short and come with a "take-away" at the end. . good summary! Easily understandable! Helped me go on to explore topics in more depth if I wanted more insight. I would recommend this as a great place to start your exploration of retirement. . and don't wait until you're on the precipice of retiring. . .read before hand because there are steps that can be taken early!
