Is the charging dock a wall hanging "snap in" type?

My wife didn't want it taking up shelf space, so she hung it from a wall hook ( where our old vac used to hang) and just set the charging disk on the bottom now the top.

How many years of use have you gotten before it doesn't stay charged?

I've used this hand vac for 7 years! We have collies and I vacuum pet hair from hardwood floors daily. Easy to see when cup needs to be emptied. I've used replacement filters that come in a 6 pack. I brush dust off after every use, discard when obviously need it, never wash them. I've replaced plastic filter cup only twice in 7 years due to clogged holes. I keep filters clear, motor and suction are still good. Battery is still giving 20 minutes of use time. I store it set on the charge plate. It's always ready when I need it. Light flashes while charging. I will use this gem until it dies. I love it! When it needs replacement I will opt for the 20 volt that is just like it but I assume slightly more suction.

How does this comapre to the Black & Decker CHV1510? Which one shoudl I get?

The chv1410L is Far superior, we have a chv1510 and it has a nicad battery which works ok for a while but you can neither charge it too much ( ruins battery ) or too little ( loses power quickly ) the 1410 L has a far superior lithium ion battery which will hold a charge far longer and can't be harmed by leaving it in the charger although it runs for a long time and doesn't need to be left on the charger much, charges quickly too, nicad batteries are junk, otherwise they seem about equal in design and power, both very nice hand vacuums.

is it good at picking up pet hair?

This vacuum is great on hard surfaces for pet hair. If the pet hair is typically hard to vacuum up because it is on cloth or carpet, not so great. It works very good to pick up loose crumbs on carpet, though. I have two cats that shed and I wholeheartedly recommend, instead, the Eureka EasyClean 71B corded handheld vacuum for pet hair on furniture. It is the only vacuum that will pick up cat hair on my velour couches because of the strong suction and rotating brushes. It is extremely important to clean the filter to keep the suction strong on both of these handheld vacuums. The filter on this Black and Decker CHV1410L is underneath the green filter cover that twists off. The easiest and most effective way to clean the filters for me is to use a shop vac on them. Of course, any vacuum with a hose attachment would work.
