12 DK-1 Gopher Traps, Pocket Gopher Traps

These are the best traps for Gophers I have ever used. They are better than poison because you retrieve them, reset and get them all. You'll be surprised how fast the Gophers will be trapped and how few Gophers there are relative to the amount of mounds that are present.My ranch was infested with Gophers but these traps changed all of that.I use a 2" soil auger with a cordless drill to make a tunnel in the soil to make the process even easier and faster. I have caught more gophers with these than any other style trap. Ignore the "hard to set" comments and learn how to do it after awhile it becomes as easy as setting a mouse trap. If your using them in a field like I am put a wire on them and steak the wire so that critters don't take your trap with the rodent.Very Effective.

Our property is being overrun by gophers, moles and voles. Based on recommendations and reviews, I bought the DK-1. I’ve never set any trap before and found the last steps of the instructions difficult to follow. Videos on YouTube on how to set these traps were more helpful.The spring latch is hard to wind and set and took about 30-40 minutes practicing to get it right. That said, I set a test trap for the gophers destroying our lawn and caught one in 24 hours. Can’t do much better than that.

These things work. Find a YouTube video on how to set them, there are a few. Once you get practiced it takes 10 seconds. I've tried a few methods over the last few months to get rid of an infestation of pocket gopher, mostly involving various methods of gas injection from flare gassers to carbon monoxide. I can't use poison due to the sensitivity of nearby animals that might get secondary doses. None of the gassing methods were working well, maybe 10% kill rate. In one week I've eliminated 6 gophers and 2 ground squirrels with the dozen I've bought. They are obviously reusable so some traps have struck twice. It's easy to tell if you got the gopher.. they are stuck on the trap. So not for the squeemish. Getting the animal out is easy too and you don't have to touch the animal, just unwind the trap and shake them off. Find the main runway, use a metal poker of some kind to push at the ground around the mounds, until you feel a no/low resistance slip of the rod, dig it out with a shovel, exposing both sides of the tunnel. Set two traps, one for each direction the tunnel leads. Leave the tunnel exposed and open, it annoys the gopher and they investigate. The trick is to get the trap as far into the tunnel as you can.. even if it means opening up the bole a bit and digging in our. If you can get it in a deep as your elbow that is best. They push dirt towards any break in the tunnel, and you want to get them snapped before they figure that out. Use a lanyard as the manufacturer suggests, I have a couple of traps get attention from coyotes after the gopher is caught.Overall, satisfied. Cheap.and cheerful, at least for me if not the gophers.Like others have said, they are mild steel so they rust a little bit. So far that doesn't seem to be an issue. They are a good value, hate to use the word cheap, so you can get a decent number of them to address a problem area. More shots on goal the better.

I would give zero stars if I could. These traps did absolutely nothing. I spent a lot of time setting them up and placing them and came to realize that they don't even snap shut (or shut, period) when set off. There is no way these would ever trap anything. Sadly it took me too long to realize their worthlessness and now I've missed the return window. Don't waste your money on these.

I bought this set of gopher traps to catch pocket gophers in a hay field. My boyfriend is very experienced with pocket gopher trapping and helped me set them. His set of traps (same model) are 15 years old and still going strong. We use 36" bright orange driveway stakes to mark them in the field. I got 14 stakes for a little over $20. Truly an exceptional setup. I caught 6 pocket gophers out of 12 traps first time out. Several gopher traps were close together, so I may have set two traps to catch the one tenant, leading to a lowered success rate. Can be a little tricky to set for small hands (like mine), but you can help yourself by putting a stake through the hole in the handle to get better leverage when you set the spring. Once I set a few, I could do it myself without the extra leverage. I got $20 reimbursement from the township on my first set-up ($4/pair of front feet), so these will pay for themselves in bounties with a few trappings. Overall, study and effective. No plastic parts to break.

DK-1 are by far the best gopher traps ever made. You may have to adjust the tension on the rod that holds the jaws open but you can bend it to your specifications with your hands…..make sure you wind the spring the correct way. I have a whole bucket full of these and have been using them for 30+ years. They are not “humane” they kill the gopher…as intended.

These traps are the only ones that consistently work. I've killed 15 gophers in the month of May. Like everyone says, they rust quick. But it doesn't seem to matter. Also, you definitely do need to stake them down or you may lose your trap. It does not kill them instantly and some of them will run backwards down their tunnel then you'll have to dig up your trap. One downside is the fact that it seems to be a slower kill than some traps. I have had to kill two gophers myself as they were still alive when I pulled them out. But that could just be that I came right after they got caught.
