RingAlarm Keypad (2nd Generation)

This was a dream to set up in HA using the standard ZWave JS integration.I would recommend installing the Ring Keypad Automation blueprint from HACS (see second picture) as that allows you to set actions for the panic, fire and police buttons.Steps to add the keypad are as follows;1. Navigate to Integrations - ZWave - add device2. Connect the keypad to a wall outlet (it will not pair otherwise)3. Press and hold the number 1 button on the keypadIt's that quick! Had the device added within seconds. Then opened up the blueprint to configure the buttons.Only downside is you cannot change what the disarm and arm buttons do in the blueprint.I.e. I don't use alarm home (the middle button) it would have been nice to change that to Alarm Night.I could just change my settings in Alarmo to make use of this button but for now I'm not going to use it as my needs might change later.I do have an NFC on the bedside which is my Goodnight kill switch, it turns off all lights and devices while also arming Alarmo to Armed Night and that's been working great before I bought the keypad.But anyway that's HA specific and not down to the ring device itself.The motion sensor on the keypad is great, as the keys light up when you walk up to it. This can of course be switched off. The keypad is well built, nice looking (much better than the gen 1).There is a red light that moves across the front of the keypad reflecting the alarm arm timer you have set in Alarmo and there is voice feedback on the alarm state when it arms and disarms.First impressions are very good, and although this is newly set up I hope it performs well.

This is a Ring security system keypad however I have NOT used it within Ring ecosystem so can't comment on that too much. Instead, this keypad can function as a regular Z-wave keypad so I used it for my own security system running on Home Assistant. For that purpose this is a great keypad, well made, rather sightly, can be plugged in or run off battery for weeks between charges. Very easy to connect to Z-wave network and setup. All buttons work including the emergency buttons.The siren is also rather loud - not as loud as a "real" alarm system but still very impressive for a keypad. I purchased a separate Aeotec Siren 6 expecting a dedicated unit to be louder however this keypad was just as loud so I ended up returning the Aeotec Siren 6.There is a small caveat when using the device with Z-wave. In default configuration it keeps sending motion alerts every second or so which appears to flood the network. As a result the keypad becomes unresponsive for 10-20 seconds and displays a red network icon before returning back to normal operation. There is a config setting number 26 - called "motion sensor timeout" which can alter this behaviour. I have set it to 60 seconds and had no more issues since then.

Have had our Ring alarm (Gen 1) up and running now for around a year and its been faultless. I prefere the look of the first generation door sensors, although bigger, they seem to blend in better. The first gen keypad on the other hand has the face only a mother could love, and was described as looking like a fisher price toy on a review I watched, which is accurate.Wanted a few more to cover the rest of the doors as we find we forget to arm the alarm on our phones when we leave but having the keypad in view reminds us. First and second generation keypads were both the same price (thankfully) so went for the second generation. Was a bit concerned by the reviews that its quieter than the first. It is, but I also found that at full volume, the first was struggling and was not really that clear. The second at full volume is clear and a similar volume to that of the first generation at a clear level in my opinion. Connected first time to the system. Time will tell if battery lasts as long as the first one, but so far its a much welcomed improvement that we don't mind now having in sight. Great buy.

The ring system as a whole is easy to set up. It is good that you can have a spare keypad to position in alternative areas of the house where needed to be able to control your system. It detects motion and will light up, if you have allowed that in your settings, so that you can easily see the numbers to key in your code or activate an alarm even in the dark.

Nice new look and design compared to gen 1 but no where near as loud.

Not sure you can write a huge amount about the keypad as ultimately it is part of the alarm system so that would be a better review (but I didn't buy mine from Amazon). I've had the V2 alarm and one of these pads since they came out. My original pad is mounted by the front door and used when we exit via the front and when we retire for the night. Bought this additional one as we often use the side door day to day and got fed up with arming via my phone. I find I get a good six months plus on a charge and that's without using the power save function. As with all the Ring alarm products I have, easy to set up and reliable. I like the fact it gives you voice feedback and as our hall switch is the opposite end to where the pad is mounted the way it lights up as I approach it.

Our Gen 1 key pad was having some issues so we replaced it with this Gen 2 pad and we can’t be happier. The smaller size, additional emergency buttons, charge cable routing options of up or down and improved key back lighting make this unit a WIN for us. Functionality is pretty similar to the Gen 1 keypad so upgrading isn’t difficult and I’d say the Gen 2 is best suited for homes with small children or the elderly because of the additional emergency keys.
