Why did the price on this pan suddenly increase so much?  was it because of the america's test kitchen positive review?

I think the manufacturer must have just decided to jack up the price because the pan is so popular. I bought my 12-inch Oxo non-stick skillet just three months ago (August 2020) and it was $39 then as compared to the $59 it is now going for. I am sure it is the same pan because when I placed my order in August, the description said, "America’s Test Kitchen’s highest-rated non-stick skillet," which is one of the primary reasons I bought it. Disappointing, to say the least, to see such a huge jump in price. That's a 50 percent increase!

Does anyone know the difference between the oxo non-stick and the oxo non-stick pro?

I see this is pfoa free, what about ptfe?

Cast iron can leech a sizable amount of iron. Of all of the micronutrients, iron is one of the riskiest to overload on. Aluminum is another problematic material that can result in lead contamination if the pan is not anodized or coated with some nonstick coating. THAT is what you what: anodized aluminum with a nonstick coating. THAT is what this is. Yea!!!

A PTFE-based coating that is PFOA free. There is no evidence of any toxicity for ingested PTFE coatings. Heck, even Teflon is safe today because Teflon has been manufactured without PFOA since 2013. Coated anodized aluminum has the advantage of being more durable (than Teflon). But the worst is ceramic. It only lasts 2-3 years and warps. It's not really ceramic. It's called ceramic due to its glossy appearance (from sand-derived silicon).

It's best if you don't use ceramic cookware at higher temps, use metal utensils, or put in the dishwasher ... all the best features of this cookware. My #1 pet peeve with ceramic is the uneven heating, which this cookware is very good at. You should not have any health concerns with this pan. It is the highest rated by all professional reviewers. Google this.

The only comparable option is the newer Ninja NeverStick Premium (NOT Essential) pan, which is slightly more durable. IMHO, you should buy whichever pan is cheaper UNLESS you need induction compatibility ... then the Ninja's stainless-steel bottom easily wins.

Freakin Reviews says Ninja NeverStick Premium 12-inch pan is the best product of 2021.

Question 4

Is the bottom perfectly flat?   I have a glass cooktop and any curvature in the pans means uneven cooking and scratches on the glass

Accepted Answer

Perfectly flat.  To maintain condition, allow the pan to warm gradually. Glass top, and electric coil range tops don't heat the bottom evenly enough, causing the bottom to heat and expand at uneven rates.  This is what causes the warping.
