How to resolve Dragonfly red low volume issues on android and kindle fire.
I give dragonfly red with tail a 5 star. I will explain in a moment for my 4 star rating. As for the dragonfly red it really boost the volume on my Samsung Galaxy j7 cell phone, but now I have a LG v30 cell phone and my kindle fire to my v-moda 100 headphones and Bose ear buds. It also uncompressed the digital files on pandora, Amazon music and all the others. The music is like day and night now I really hear clear clean full music. The highs and mids stand out as does the bass. It's great. Now for the bad news. I returned the first one because it made the music at a level that I could hardly hear it on my Samsung android j7 cell phone and kindle fire. Even though Amazon's posting on the dragon fly states that the dragonflyred would work with the micro android dragon tail on any android phone and kindle Fire. "They both take the micro adapter". I called audioquest who informed me that the dragonfly has a software problem on the dragonfly reds that are older than a few months ago when they resolved the issue. So if I did get one of the ones left from before the software up grade it wouldnt work unless I went to there site and downloaded the up grade to my laptop and plug in the dragonfly and manually did the up grade my self. Also I needed to purchase an app for 7 dollars from Google play store called audio pro. This google app will be needed for even the newest dragonfly with the new upgrade. Hope you who have android phones are following this. Ok so I ordered a nother dragonfly and dragonfly micro tail from Amazon. I receved it same issue very little volume. There's a card that was in the box that tells you info. On Google app and has web site to audio quest for download. Sounds like a lot of work but a 9 year old can do it. It worked first try. Downloaded the up grade in about 10 minutes. And the dragonfly works great. I know a salesman at bestbuy and he sells the dragonfly but he diddnt know any thing about the software download or the app from Google. He owns a dragonfly red but has an I phone/apple phone's dont have this problem. So if you have an android and buy a dragonfly red,"dont know about the black" and there's very little volume you'll need this info. This information should be posted by Amazon. Would have saved me a lot of aggravation. So 4 stars. Dragonfly red is definitely sounding great for a 200 dollar DAC. PS if you have an older home recever that doesn't have a DAC you can use a RCA ,Y splitter. It needs to be 2 RCA Male to 1, 1/8" Male to plug into dragon fly were your headphones would plug in. Then plug in tail on dragon fly and micro end into cell or pad. RCA cables to audio in on recever. Play your cell or pad over your speakers for uncompressed great music. Im Finally done. Hope this helps those who would have had to figured this out. Note that I do have a new phone now as you'll see in my posting above it's a LG v30 it has a built-in saber DAC that's a 24-bit. But I still use the dragonfly red on the new phone because it gives me twice the volume. The phone sounds great without it but it's unbelievable the volume that I have with the dragonfly red on it so I'm still using it after a few years now and everything is working fine.

Firmware update 1.07 didn't fix the volume problem with my android.
I really wanted the DF red to work with my older android, but it had the volume issues brought up by others and was playable with only partial volume. The firmware update 1.07 didn't make any difference, still only played at a fraction of its volume potential. What I could hear sounded good but I so wished I could have cranked up the volume. I will be returning the DF red since is really isn't compatible.

Only a few hours of listening. I am using this with a Samsung S5 with USB Audio Player Pro. I have read complaints about having to use this software to make this all work. For me, this is working great. The Dragontail has a USB connector and a micro USB that plugs into the phone. Setting it all up was very easy and the sound compared to other Android music players, to include Google Play Music and the Samsung native player is markedly improved. The soundstage is broader and there is much more musical detail. I am listening to FLAC files at the 44100Hz and 320Kbps (though this is only played at 96Kbps by the Dragonfly Red). I am very pleased with my purchase. I am not an audiophile, I just enjoy good recordings of great music.

USB MISLEADING PICTURE
The pictures show a micro USB extender cable but it's really just a USB extender. Just beware.
