Yes. I monitor mine from wherever I am in the world. Once it is on wifi you are set. It uses the excellent Smart Life app plus links to Alexa and others.

I "understand that it is powered by usb" but why does it say "1 aaa battery required" rigth in the part specs. is it a backup? can i use just battery?

I don't think you can control another heater with this sensor. This heater is controlled by Alexa.
