Q: What’s the difference between 3rd generation and this professional 3 rd generation

The two thermostats are the same. The pro version is intended to installed by a professional installer, who provides the warranty.

Q: Does the box include wall plate?

Thank you for the question. I don't think so, there is not mention in the box related to wall plate.

Q: Is the carbon black housing metal or plastic? What about the white version- same question?

The back housing is white plastic. I am unsure of the color and material for the back housing for the white version of Nest. On Amazon they sell other backings for the Nest.

Q: does this show temps in farenhite ?

It does. You can choose whether you want it to display temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius when you set it up.
