Kinter The Giant Killer!!! Low Noise Low Price!
I have spent most of the 73 plus years of my life listening to great music and audio products. When I was 18 I bought my first photo preamp for under 15 bucks in a neat wooden box that was about three times the size of this little gem. Now many years later for the same price long comes this kinter p r 400 moving magnet phono preamp that outshines and outperforms most others and is going to give some serious competition to the big boys.I've lived with this little unit for over a year now and have listened to all kinds of turntables and phono cartridges through it and it is absolutely amazing at his price point! I currently have it hooked up to my u-turn green orbit basic that I recently installed an upgraded the supplied phone cartridge with a Goldring E2 green cartridge. This combo has rendered the smoothest blattest frequency response and also the lowest noise even when compared to more expensive preamps that are up to eight times the price! With the E2 and kinter pr400 in place there is wonderful warmth in the base fantastic mids and beautifully articulated high frequencies. The combo does not emphasize or Dee emphasize any one part of the full musical spectrum. Yet it maintains honest reproduction and wonderful sound staging with a completely dark quiet background. In other words it sounds good.. darn good! So my friend if you're looking for a solid inexpensive performer this one is an absolute no-brainer as I am using it with good well made $10 RCA interconnects from abroad and I'm extremely pleased with the results.I may very well decide to try a more expensive pair of interconnects with this little guy in the near future but that is how good this little box performs. The pilot light stays lit all the time unless you have it plugged into a switched outlet. This is no big deal for me and I think for most people. It is a bright orange light but is not in any way shape or form annoying. In fact it looks kind of cool when the lights are out LOL. So before you entertain the idea of spending $80 to $100 for a Pluto or rega or music Hall or any of the big boys.. at least consider this one because if for no other reason to have a spare phone operator in your kit it only cost you pittance is a wise idea if for no other reason to have as a backup. The fixed output is at a good average level and if you own equipment where you can adjust the input level.. then all the better this will do you. But as a main driver it'll do surprisingly well. Enjoy your vinyl and enjoy the hobby and keep that turntable going and going my friend God bless you and Merry Christmas!!! PJS2

Completely silent, bare-bones amp that works great
As others have noted, this amp has no volume control, but pots can fail, or add noise over time and the gain was just fine. It also doesn't have feet of any kind. so if you like everything to be perfectly square on the table, you might need to apply some Velcro. My only other critique is the transformer-based power supply and I'm trying to eliminate all parasitic transformers from my home. Still, I got it in one day so I could test my impulse-purchase Sony PS-FL1 motorized drawer yard sale find turntable!

Gain was OK, no volume control. An on/off switch would be nice
Use this to amp the line signal from my vintage Technics SL-D2 turntable up to a usable level for the input into a Russound whole house audio system. This amp allows a turntable to be used just like most other inputs devices like a CD player, tape deck, etc. No volume (gain) adjustment, but the fixed gain level is sufficient. Because this unit does not have an on/off switch, I just plug it in when cueing up a record. The light reminds me to unplug it after use.Works fine, price is good and I can send the music to any room in the house.

Pleased for the price, nice clear little Preamp
Nicely built for a low priced pre-amp all metal case decent quality jacks and ground terminal and mine has zero hum - better than any of the lower end muddy sounding Pyles and a few others in this $ range. Only (my opinion) but compared to Art DJpreII and TC 750 this one has just a touch less punch but costs notably less and still has very good detailed sound and over all I consider it a bargain low priced preamp and a good deal for the money, (not muddy) at all - decently clean sounding with no hum, buzz or extraneous noise, BUT I should say that ive only run mine using a linear transformer based 12v power supply from parts express, so I cannot speak for how quiet the supplied wall mounted power supply might be. I feel this budget preamp is worth every penny of its asking price of $14.98 but another $6.00 for shipping kinda sucks for as little and light as it is. Overall im easily pleased enough to keep this one for sure. Of course now that ive bought one the price dropped - lol A great deal. EDIT:.... Liked it so much I bought a second one after the price dropped to $12.98, got it today and the second one works as great as the first - its not A real elaborate circuit inside just a good basic preamp circuit with a Texas instruments NE5532P op-amp, further research shows its very similar to the Pyle PP444 minus the Pyle's 1/4" jack but with no jack the Kinter costs even less than the Pyle and im betting it sounds better than the Pyle model.- im still pleased with it as a very good sounding low budget phono preamp----- bottom line I really like this little Kinter preamp- again I bought a second one. Google search says the Kinters Texas Instruments NE5532P is a decent quality quiet opamp - and it sounds fine IMO especially at the price. My ONLY complaint at this low a price is theres no feet of any kind on it even though the amazon sale page pics show it with feet - I had to apply some self stick silicone rubber ones so I dont scratch the back of my receiver where it sits. Nice little preamp perfectly tuned for turntables
This is affordable phono preamp which works well for turntables without inbuilt preamp.I am using this with my JVC AL-F350 which does not have any inbuilt preamp. I tried few options but this one suits best to my need.Pros:- Very good build quality of the case and quality electronic components used inside.- Nicely tuned for turntables (high frequencies are bit suppressed).- Impedance matches with Magnetic cartridges.- Output level is adequate for aux in for most amplifiers.- No humming or other distortions.- Supplied adapter works well but it also works with other filtered power sources 12 to 24 v.- Excellent customer support.Cons:- No level control (although not needed for most cases). So overall, this is a overall decent preamp at a reasonable price.
