This product is non-magnetic. I just checked to answer your question. There is only a very slight magnetic attraction. Perhaps a rare earth magnet would produce a somewhat stronger attraction, but it you're looking to hang anything of any weight from this nest, this is not the product for you.

What's the mesh size? Al the other sellers mention this.

Without breaking out the digital calipers, the opening in the mesh is very close to 1/16th of an inch or 1 1/2 mm. Wire size is probably 24 ga., or .020".

Would this work in a lid for a reptile tank? Would it withstand heat holding a heat lamp?

I think it would withstand heat from a heat lamp, but it is probably best for the lamp to not touch the screen.
